“Tut-tut, looks like piracy,” said Capcom, and summarily cancelled the PC version of Super Street Fighter IV.
So, it wasn’t quite as simple as that, but Capcom has confirmed that PC gamers won’t be getting Super Street Fighter IV on their platform of choice. This news comes roughly five months following the release of the game on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and over a year after the title’s predecessor, Street Fighter IV, saw a release on the PC.
By now, most fans of the fighting game genre are able to admit that Capcom’s Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV titles have single-handedly (or… dual-handedly?) injected a huge amount of new excitement into a category of videogames that has steadily become more and more niche and inaccessible over the years, despite Namco’s continued entries to the Tekken and Soul Calibur series.
Now, with Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom is set to bring a whole new crossover audience into the world of fighting games, as characters from both the Street Fighter and Tekken franchises collide in one universe and do battle for supremacy.
While screenshots and information has already been released for Street Fighter X Tekken, only now do we get to see the first in-game footage from the game, as Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, as well as Kazuya and Nina from Tekken, feature in an incredible debut gameplay video:
Well, Capcom and Namco have finally gone and done it: The two giants of the fighting game world have come together to create a mash-up title.
Street Fighter X Tekken was officially announced this past weekend during the recent San Diego Comic Con, and will feature characters from the Street Fighter universe and characters from the Tekken universe battling it out for franchise superiority, all set in the style of Street Fighter IV with 3D visuals in a 2D perspective.
But that’s not all. A game called Tekken X Street Fighter was also announced, currently in development at Namco under the watchful eye of Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada.
Yes that’s right! Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has today announced that a new Mortal Kombat head-to-head fighting game is in development for the Xbox 360 and PS3, slated for release in 2011.
And get this:
It’s in 2D.
Picture the scene: you’re sitting across the table from your sweetheart at a romantic restaurant, sneaking twinkle-eyed glimpses at one another while feasting on a delicious candlelit dinner for two. Perhaps your favourite song echoes across the moodily darkened room, as you both catch each other’s eye in surprise:
“I don’t want to set the world on fire / I just want to start, a flame in your heart / In my heart I have but one desire / And that one is you - no other will do…”
And then, mere metres away, a Super Mutant Behemoth explodes into giant, bloody, meaty chunks as a Mini Nuke rips through its hardened armour.
You see, Fallout 3 is a thing of beauty, and a thing of science.
Yes, that’s right! Fallout 3 has been added to Xbox LIVE’s Games on Demand digital download service, accompanied by the excellent Street Fighter IV, both of which are now available to purchase and download.
Want to know more about these great titles, and watch some classic trailers? Say no more:
SNK Playmore has announced the publisher’s intention to enter the fighting game arena once more, and release another entry to the King of Fighters franchise with The King of Fighters XIII.
Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb has been good enough to unveil the full release schedule for the next month or so of Xbox LIVE Marketplace content, including Deals of the week, Games on Demand, Xbox LIVE Arcade Games, Avatar accessories and game add-ons, as well as dates and prices for the content.

Two heavyweight titles have today been added to the Xbox LIVE Games on Demand digital download service in the form of Capcom’s Street Fighter IV, and Microsoft’s own Halo Wars, while Japanese Xbox 360 gamers can enjoy the top-down scrolling shooter, Shooting Love 200X.
Head on down below for a trot down memory lane, with a bunch of legacy trailers, refresher-course information snippets, and to find out how much these beauties will cost:
Super Street Fighter IV, the new and improved version of the excellently updated Street Fighter IV, will be releasing at the end of April this year in Europe and North America on PS3 and Xbox 360, Capcom recently revealed.
In order to get Street Fighter fans frothing even more for the recently announced Super Street Fighter IV, Capcom has released an extended teaser trailer for the game, as well as a batch of official screenshots.
Super Street Fighter IV is set to release in Spring next year as a standalone, disc-based title, as opposed to downloadable content for the already existing Street Fighter IV, and will add eight new characters and a bevy of fixes, tweaks and improvements to the original game.
Continue on down below to see the rest of the screenshots, as well as that extended trailer. You can also stay for a little while longer and watch shaky-cam footage of some in-game action, and see new characters T. Hawk, Dee Jay and Juri crushing their opponents:
[Update] Watch a video interview with Super Street Fighter IV’s producer, Yoshinori Ono, after the jump.
A very quick teaser video went up recently on Capcom’s Japanese site, revealing glimpses of watercolour-smattered fighting scenes similar to those of their latest Street Fighter game, Street Fighter IV.
This obviously lead to speculation that a new Street Fighter game was on the horizon from Capcom, and what else would they call this game? Why, Super Street Fighter IV, of course.
Capcom has now confirmed that Super Street Fighter IV indeed exists, and will be a standalone title heading out to PS3 and Xbox 360 in Spring next year. What’s new in the game, though?
Whoa, what’s this? A teaser trailer from Capcom? Is this about the rumoured sequel and/or follow-up to the excellent Street Fighter IV? Or something else?
Well, the only way to know for sure would be to wait until the time and date noted on the site, which just so happens to be tomorrow (September 29th) at 17:00 JST.
All you Street Fighter fans out there: time to get excited!
Street Fighter IV is my favourite fighting game of the generation, but up to now I haven’t had the pleasure of playing it in the arcades or with an arcade-quality controller. Enter the Official Tournament FightStick for Street Fighter IV. This is a brilliant piece of equipment – the minute you start playing with it everything feels comfortable. The buttons and stick are exactly like what you’d get in the arcade, but for the stick being a little clicky (which might be how arcade sticks are now, I wouldn’t know because we never get new arcade games where I live).

Mad Catz has revealed a new range of Street Fighter IV fightsticks and fightpads for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The Round 2 accessories range is fully licensed and was produced in close collaboration with Capcom. It features new designs from official character-based artwork taken from the game and collectible packing.
There are those of us who are old enough to remember a time when going to the video arcade was the most possible fun to be had in video gaming. Yes, we had our “family computer” machines and PC’s at home, but the beachfront arcade had the really good stuff: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with four player support, Wonder Boy, Double Dragon. And Street Fighter 2. I was never good enough (and never had quite enough 50c pieces) to contend, but just watching the frenetic action of it was always a joy.
