Kotaku has managed to get hold of an internal Microsoft memo sent out by CEO Steve Ballmer, stating that both Xbox chief, Robbie Bach, as well as ‘father’ of the Xbox, J. Allard, have decided to leave the company.
This news comes amid rumours of a ‘shake up’ in the Entertainment & Devices Division, which houses Microsoft’s games business, where “major organizational changes” are on the way for the organisation.
Oh dear, here we go again…
Microsoft’s big Kahuna, Steve Ballmer, has once again made comments that have caused some confusion amongst the Xbox 360 fan constituency, this time regarding the availability of Blu-Ray accessories for the company’s line of products, which many console followers took to mean that Blu-Ray players would be made available for the Xbox 360.
If it were true, this would be a major turn of events for the future of the Xbox 360, after the HD-DVD versus Blu-Ray format war resulted in Blu-Ray becoming the preferred disc format going forward, meaning Microsoft’s investment in HD-DVD was a case of betting the wrong horse, making the manufacture of the extra, external Xbox 360 HD-DVD drives a poor choice over the option of providing a Blu-Ray offering instead.
Last week, Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer made confusing statements regarding a future Xbox 360 that would release next year, essentially describing a new Xbox 360 stock-keeping unit (SKU) which would come standard with their upcoming motion and voice recognition system, Project Natal.
In a statement to IGN, however, Ballmer admits that he wrongly confused the situation regarding any future plans for a Project Natal/Xbox 360 SKU:
It appears as though Microsoft head, Steve Ballmer, is a little confused about what his company’s games studio is working on, as evidenced by recent strange remarks while addressing The Executive’s Club of Chicago yesterday, speaking of a new Xbox 360 that will hit store shelves next year.
During his wide ranging speech, and while talking about the importance of innovation in the market, Ballmer spoke about a new Microsoft console that is “really, really, close” to a reality, and will have a “natural interface,” combined with voice and motion recognition.
