With the help of some official descriptions, some classic trailers, and perhaps even a review, we can easily fill in that information gap currently occupying the space where this data should have been in the first place.

New Star Wars Game Teaser

A teaser trailer for the next videogame in the Star Wars universe has been released in anticipation of the full reveal and premiere of the game at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards ceremony on December 12th this year.

For better or worse, the snippets of the game on show in the teaser look more like a new entry to the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series of games, rather than a new Star Wars: Battlefront or Knights of the Old Republic.

I’ve been wrong before, though, so have a look at the teaser trailer for yourself, below:

LucasArts have announced that they have renewed their distribution and publishing contract with Activision Blizzard, which will see the mega-publisher taking care of the business side of LucasArts’ games in the pan-European, Southeast Asian and Australian regions of the world.

LucasArts Logo After a successful partnership that saw the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed across many, multiple platforms, selling a whopping 5.7 million units in the process, the two companies hope to continue their successes with LucasArts’ upcoming Wii, DS, PSP and PS2 game, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, releasing in June this year. VP of global publishing at LucasArts, Mary Bihr said:

“This agreement with Activision reflects LucasArts’ commitment to the international markets and we look forward to bringing the best products to our consumers worldwide.

“We made the decision based upon Activision’s proven track record in managing strong brands and our long standing relationship which has produced tremendous results as games such as LEGO Indiana Jones and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed have risen to the top of sales charts globally.”

General manager of LucasArts International for Activision Publishing, Menno Van der Bil commented by saying; “LucasArts’ vast portfolio of video games has caught the imagination of gamers of all ages across the globe - opening up exciting new possibilities for much-loved franchises whilst injecting fresh ideas into the market.

“We look forward to working alongside LucasArts to release unique and innovative products the whole family can enjoy for the years to come.”

In an amazing turn of events, the latest Star Wars game to see the light of day from under LucasArts’ wing, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, has sold a whopping 5.7 million units across all platforms.

The Force Unleashed, released in September across (deep breath) PlayStation 3, Xbox 360; PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, DS, iPod Touch, iPhone, N-Gage, and other mobiles, has now gone on to become the fastest selling Star Wars title ever. George must be proud.

The game had already achieved this milestone in the month of its release, selling 1.5 million copies across all of the non-mobile platforms, so this new number is going to be incredibly difficult to best for LucasArts in the future.

Adding to the history books, The Force Unleashed got a solid nod from The Writer’s Guild of America, winning the Video Game Writing Award during the 2009 Writer’s Guild Awards.

As for the game itself, El33tonline thought it was a bit of a mixed bag, as you can see in our PSP, Xbox 360 and PS3 reviews of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

In a ceremony held late last week, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed walked away with the Video Game Writing Award from the Writers Guild of America.

Writer's Guild of America LogoOther nominees for the award were Fallout 3 (Bethesda), Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 (EA), Tomb Raider: Underworld (Eidos) and Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble (Mousechief). Star Wars: The Force Unleashed writers Haden Blackman, Shawn Pitman, John Stafford and Cameron Suey picked up the award on the team’s behalf.

Now in its second year, the Video Game Writing Award was awarded at this year’s 2009 Writer’s Guild Awards. Last year’s award winner was Dead Head Fred from Vicious Cycle Software, and written by Dave Ellis and Adam Cogan

Not to lessen the achievements of the abovementioned games, but hopefully we’ll see a greater adoption of these awards next year, as these games and nominees aren’t really indicative of the quality of writing on show in 2008’s games.

The latest entry to the Star Wars saga, in game form anyway, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, has entered the history books as the fastest selling Star Wars and LucasArts game of all time, moving 1.5 million copies around the world in five days.

Star Wars: The Force Unleased Box ArtWhile the game is available on all platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii and DS), with all editions released simultaneously in specific regions (ranging from September 16th in the US to September 19th in Europe) this is still an incredible feat. LucasArts are so taken aback by the response, in fact, that their original 4.3 million copy production run of the game has been increased to make up for the unprecedented demand.

“The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “We’re blown away by the response to the game.” Impressive.
