Square Enix has today formally announced Sleeping Dogs for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, a new open-world action game set in Hong Kong and due for a release towards the latter half of 2012.
Currently in development at United Front Games (Modnation Racers), Sleeping Dogs is described as “a gritty and visceral openworld cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong,” a depiction that is not coincidentally similar to Activision’s True Crime: Hong Kong.
There’s been plenty of speculation whether Final Fantasy X for PS3 and PS Vita would be a remake or an HD Remaster. Square Enix certainly seemed to imply that it would be a full-blown remake when the game was announced in September 2011 at a PlayStation Vita conference held in Japan.
2012 is certainly getting off to a good start as far as new games are concerned, as Final Fantasy XIII-2 is yet another shiny title that releases today in the US and later this week everywhere else.
As is standard celebration fair, an action-packed and somewhat mysterious launch trailer has gone out to mark the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2 - you can watch that below and read over the just-announced downloadable content details, too:
It’s no secret that I am a Tomb Raider fan. I have watched as the series grew in popularity over the years, been dismayed when it began to crumble a little over the past few years, excited when The Guardian of Light bore testament to a reawakening of the might of Lara Croft, and amazed when the new re-imagined Tomb Raider was revealed.
The recent demo for Final Fantasy XIII-2 proves that Square Enix is more adaptable than many people give it credit for. The game went on sale last month in Japan and hasn’t been the runaway hit the publisher was hoping for. It’s sold around 739k in roughly two weeks, placing it well below the brisk sales achieved by previous Final Fantasy games.

Square Enix recently gave us all another taste of what we can expect (as far as CG cinematics go) in Final Fantasy XIII-2 as protagonist Lightning and the seemingly evil Caius cross swords and magicks in the midst of an erupting battlefield.
There have already been plenty of awesome collector’s editions this year, and this trend seems set to extend well into 2012 if the one for Final Fantasy XIII-2 is anything to go by. Yesterday Square Enix lifted the lid on the game’s limited edition bundle which is exclusive to the US.
The latest issue of Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation has plenty of interesting titbits about Final Fantasy XIII-2. The most significant of these is that the game will come with an easy mode for newcomers to the series, or people who simply couldn’t be bothered to spend extra hours on level grinding.
It’s time to freshen up that classic dungeon-crawling experience in Dungeon Siege III with an injection of new adventures and abilities with today’s release of the ‘Treasures of the Sun’ downloadable content!
