The Spike Video Game Awards 2010 have rapidly come and gone, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t get all kinds of jaw-dropping new trailers and surprise announcements, while also finding out who were the eventual winners in the ceremony’s annual game of the year awards.

The announcement of Kratos’ appearance in next year’s Mortal Kombat had already been made earlier this week, but now we get to see everybody’s favourite god of war in a Mortal Kombat environment proper with this latest trailer for the brutal fighter.
The CG video was aired during the Spike Video Game Awards, and contains an epic fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, as supreme Mortal Kombat bad dude, Shao Kahn, watches with amusement.

In 2013 “a new terror from Guillermo Del Toro” will emerge, this time set to exclusively invade the dreams and nightmares of gamers around the world.
A disturbingly creepy announcement trailer for Del Toro’s game, Insane, was shown during the Spike Video Game Awards 2010, and even though no gameplay was revealed, you can be sure the title will include healthy doses of the aforementioned “terror.”

While El33tonline held our very own Game of the Year proceedings to determine which titles of 2010 could be considered the very best of the best, the recent Spike Video Game Awards 2010 announced its round of ‘best games of the year’ list.
In results that actually mirror those of El33tonline’s Game of the Year competition, Red Dead Redemption came out on top as the overall game of the year, nudging ahead of Mass Effect 2 to do so. Truly, these two games are top quality!

Every year since 2003, the ‘Spike Video Game Awards’ show has been hosted by the Spike TV cable channel in the US to recognise and acknowledge the very best achievements and experiences that the videogame world has to offer.
These ceremonies are always presented with much pomp and circumstance, accompanied by live music performances and appearances by celebrities of all varieties. In the past, hosts have included Jack Black, Snoop Dogg, David Spade and Samuel L. Jackson.
During the event, awards for ‘Best Game of the Year,’ ‘Best Platform Game of the Year,’ ‘Best Soundtrack of the Year’ and more are handed out to games and their creators, as voted on by the public and nominated by a panel of judges, while trailers and reveals of highly anticipated titles are also shown and teased further.
