There exist a handful of games releasing in 2012 that, at their mere mention, members of El33tonline will instantly drop whatever they’re doing and divert all attention to the discussion at hand.
Darksiders II from Vigil is such a game, and this weekend we were treated to a brand new teaser trailer for the next epic action adventure game to follow 2010’s outstanding Darksiders.
Another edition of the Spike Video Game Awards has come and gone, but not without its fair share of excitement!
Not only were brand new, unknown games revealed in the form of ‘The Last of Us’ from Naughty Dog and ‘Fortnite’ from Epic Games, but we also got our first looks at titles like Command & Conquer: Generals 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, Amazing Spider-Man and Alan Wake: American Nightmare, not to mention new looks at other incredible games.
To top it all off, the ‘awards’ portion of the show didn’t disappoint, either, as worthy games all walked away with the recognition they deserve.
El33tonline covered all of these announcements, peeks and awards, and you can find our round-up of the excitement below:
You may not believe it, but the annual Spike Video Game Awards isn’t actually all about revealing exciting new games, nor is it centred on providing looks at upcoming titles.
No, the Spike Video Game Awards are about awards! Well, mostly anyway.
What terribly distressing events await us in Bioshock Infinite next year? What heart-rending actions will we be subjected to?
As the latest compilation trailer for Bioshock Infinite reveals, it’s not all Skyhooks, blazing action and Fourth of July Summertime celebrations in the game. There will be tragedy and poignant moments of reflection, too. There will be events that deeply affect us and make us question ourselves.
And we expect nothing less from Irrational Games.
Blizzard Entertainment is not only the master of CG sequences but a master storyteller, too, able to effortlessly weave an enthralling narrative with tales of ancient demons, epic battles and fantastic, long-forgotten lore.
Combined with those CG sights and sounds, the studio’s stories are always spellbinding until the very last frame, before the game whisks you away into the adventure with fiendishly addictive gameplay.
If you’ve been looking forward to your next look at High Moon and Activision’s upcoming Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, then we’ve got the goods because a brand new trailer for the giant robot action game has made an appearance following the recent Spike VGA event.
There was a lot of speculation and excitement surrounding the announcement of the next Alan Wake game, but with little to no official information on it, we were all forced to refer to it simply as ‘the next Alan Wake game.’
‘It’s not a sequel to Alan Wake,’ we were told, but it does ‘take place in the Alan Wake universe,’ reports confirmed. ‘And it’s downloadable.’ Interesting.
But what is it?
It’s common knowledge in gaming circles that Hitman Absolution from IO Interactive is shaping up to be one of the most exciting games of 2012, and seems to be not only a triumphant return for ‘the original assassin,’ but also a return to form for the hit-and-miss Danish game developer.
We may have already glimpsed a target render video for Ubisoft’s 2013 tactical shooter, Rainbow Six: Patriots, and we’ve already read about the rise of the ‘True Patriots,’ the game’s fictitious terrorist group, but now we get a look at the shocking scenes we’ll be tasked with stopping thanks to the release of the first official trailer.
Terror runs riot in Rainbox Six: Patriots, and as an operative, we’ll be given the chance to keep the world safe once more:
Whoever thought it was a good idea to populate New York City with an army of robots in an effort to stave off a ‘threat’ should seek out an immediate brain transplant, because we all know how that goes.
At first, the robots are friendly and do what they were created to do, but then… then their red ‘eyes’ activate and they turn on their human masters. Or start serving their real purpose and help a criminal mastermind take over the world.
Happens all, the, time.
It was only a year ago (almost to the day!) that BioWare and EA first unveiled the next instalment of the pair’s epic space opera RPG series in Mass Effect 3 at 2010’s Spike Video Game Awards, and now at this year’s show, a brand new absolutely incredible gameplay trailer has been released.
Mass Effect and action fans alike: Do not miss this:
Hideo Kojima and Konami’s sword-slashing action title Metal Gear Rising has finally re-emerged into the world with an barnstormingly insane ‘revengeance’ trailer, showcasing Metal Gear Solid’s Raiden as he slices, dices and chops enemies into bits with lightning-quick katana attacks.
There may or may not be slow motion sequences and Raiden may or may not hurl a building-sized robot into the air and then proceed to destroy said robot a kilometre above ground. Who can say for sure?
But if that action is in the latest trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, it’s not the craziest thing to happen…
Can it be true? Will the Tony Hawk series of skating videogames return to form… by returning to its roots with a high definition remake? Yes, it is true.
BioWare recently confirmed rumours and speculation that the traditionally role-playing game focussed studio is currently working on the next entry to the Command & Conquer series of strategy games, with Command & Conquer: Generals 2 being its first foray into the franchise.
The game is due for release in 2013, and you can watch the crushing debut trailer for Command & Conquer: Generals 2 and also catch the very first details and screenshots for the amazing-looking strategy title:
Epic Games recently went and unveiled the next title it’s currently working on, Fortnite, and true to the word of the Gears of War studio, it won’t include ‘space marines’ and is indeed ‘very different’ to the developer’s previous games… although it does include what appear to be cartoon-like zombies in what we’re led to believe is an action-packed ‘defence’ type of game.
See for yourself in the very first teaser trailer and discover why ‘Fortnite’ is such a fitting title:
