Do you live in South Korea, and are you currently subscribed to Blizzard’s industry-crushing World of Warcraft?
Well, according to an announcement made at a recent event in Seoul, South Korea, Blizzard will be rewarding your dedication to the company’s massively multiplayer online game by allowing you to play its soon-to-be industry-crushing strategy game, StarCraft II, for free… providing you meet both of the criteria outlined above.
According to E-Sports website FOMOS.kr, StarCraft II’s more offensive content, including blood, foul language and depiction of drug use (smoking in this case) will be censored and removed when it releases in South Korea later this year, all in an effort to receive a favourable (‘Age 12’) age rating.
A Blizzard Entertainment PR representative has told Shacknews that the developer has already appealed the “18 and up” age rating that South Korea’s Game Ratings Board (GRB) has given to StarCraft II, in an attempt to lower the rating and widen the potential audience in the country.
According to a report from The Korea Times, Blizzard’s upcoming StarCraft II real-time strategy game has been given an “18 and up” age-rating by South Korea’s Games Rating Board (GRB), citing the game’s levels of violence, foul language and depiction of drug use as reasons for the strict rating.
