EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: soulcalibur5
It honestly feels like just yesterday that I was writing up a post on El33tonline talking about the announcement of Soul Calibur V. I was sitting at the airport in Durban on my way to a Megarom Games event in Johannesburg, and naturally I couldn’t last two seconds without an internet connection so I bought a bit of WiFi bandwidth.
I saw the announcement of Soul Calibur V and hastily wrote it up, sans image to accompany it - here’s the result.
Now, almost a year later, El33tonline and Megarom Games are giving away a copy of the game! How crazy… but enough weird anecdotes from me, who won that Soul Calibur V?!
Patroklos viewed his opponent with a steely gaze: Sure, his enemy was nine feet tall, wore armour as thick as the portcullis of a large fort and carried a sword that was about the size of a small house, but that had never stopped Patroklos before. On his side was his confidence (which many viewed as arrogance), his stunning good looks, justice and an almost unnatural talent with sword and shield.
Patroklos tensed as the fight began and advanced upon his gargantuan opponent…

It’s finally here. The fifth iteration of the venerable Soul Calibur weapons-based fighter is due for release tomorrow in the US and later this week around the rest of the world, and a crushing launch trailer has been released just in time to stoke the excitement for franchise fans.
But that’s not the half of it.
Following a round of quick-fire rumours recently, it’s been confirmed that master assassin and Assassin’s Creed protagonist Ezio Auditore will be present and playable in Namco Bandai’s upcoming fighter, Soul Calibur V.
Get your first glimpses of the Ubisoft’s character in Soul Calibur V as he slashes, stabs and shoots other fighters on the stage of history:
Fourteen years ago Soul Blade (also known as Soul Edge) was released on PlayStation. The game was an instant classic thanks to its incredible graphics (for the time) and lightning-fast, weapon-based gameplay. Namco had provided us with a viable alternative to Tekken and the company has never looked back - the franchise has sold millions of units and the development of the seventh instalment in the series - Soul Calibur V - is well underway.
Soul Calibur V is the latest game in a litany of recent fighters that will endure a slow and protracted character reveal process, as each and every roster slot is gradually filled in with gravity-defying personalities of peculiar and otherworldly design.
With the announcement of Soul Calibur V earlier this year during Namco Bandai’s press event in Japan, fighting fans now have another game in their favourite genre to look forward to, and if the team behind the latest ‘souls and swords’ game is to believed, the fifth iteration of the franchise is going to be “faster, lighter and more elegant.”
Meet the highly experienced team of Project Soul in a fantastic developer video diary, and find out about the team’s ideals and focuses for Soul Calibur thanks to an interview with the game’s producer, Hisaharu Tago:
It was a bit of a quiet E3 for Codemasters and Namco Bandai this year, but the pair’s marquee titles were present at full blast with impressive showings from fantasy-themed offerings such as Dark Souls and Soul Calibur V, and the decidedly more extreme first-person shooter, Bodycount.
Last month, the weapons-based fighter Soul Calibur was confirmed to be returning to the stage of history (i.e. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) next year in the form of Soul Calibur V, a game set 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur IV.
Currently in development at franchise stewards Project Soul for a 2012 release, Soul Calibur V will include new and old characters and this time focuses on the plight of Patroklos, son of series protagonist Sophitia Alexandra.
According to Namco Bandai, Soul Calibur V will feature the series’ “revolutionary” eight-way run mechanic, a refined battle system and reportedly “stunning” graphics, as well as expanded online and character creation functionality.
Thanks to Namco Bandai’s recent press event in Dubai, the fifth entry to the Soul Calibur series has been officially announced, with a debut teaser trailer released to prove its existence.
During a recent press event in Dubai, Namco Bandai formally announced Soul Calibur V.
A trailer was shown to event attendees (which will hopefully pop up real soon, either officially or not) and a few details shared, but not much else.
