Sorcery is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I’ve had for a long time. While it only takes four or five hours to see everything this title has to offer, the game’s narrative moves along at a fairly brisk pace and does a great job of making you feel completely absorbed in the unfolding events. Sorcery’s gameplay is also basic enough to be accessible to just about everyone who can hold up a PlayStation Move controller, and the game’s beautiful presentation makes this magical adventure a worthwhile excursion for gamers from all age groups.

Those of you who are regular visitors to the European PlayStation Store may have seen something a little out of the ordinary when it updated on Wednesday. Sorcery was available to pre-order a week before its release day - the first time that a full, retail PS3 game has been listed on the PS Store before its release.

Sony has tried to market the PlayStation Move in a variety of ways over the past couple of years but ultimately there hasn’t been enough software support for the peripheral to take it mainstream. Sorcery is Sony’s biggest PS Move title so far and has been in development for over three years at California-based developer The Workshop. This promising title will finally be released next week on Blu-ray and as a digital download via the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation Move has been around for a couple of years now and few titles have tapped into its potential to change the way we play games. At this point, the wand-waving, action-adventure title Sorcery seems like the most likely candidate to demonstrate what the Move is truly capable of when it’s released in a couple of weeks’ time.

Sony has released a few more details about the story for Sorcery, along with the final US box art for the game.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Brian Upton, Creative Director of the game at SCEA Santa Monica Studio, revealed that some elements of the story were consistent during development while others changed dramatically.

The PlayStation Move game Sorcery has been on the horizon for quite some time, having first been announced at E3 2010. Although most people are aware of Sorcery’s basic game mechanics - use the Move controller to cast magic spells - very few of us know much about the characters, plot and setting that provides a context for all the Move-based monster slaying you’ll be doing during the course of the game.

The PlayStation Move provides a great optional control scheme for games like Killzone 3 and Heavy Rain but it currently lacks a killer app that would convince thousands of consumers to rush out and buy it. Sony are hoping that upcoming action-adventure title Sorcery will be the game that gives PlayStation Move some much-needed momentum, and will reportedly release a Sorcery PS3 bundle in Europe on May 23rd to coincide with the game’s launch.

The last we heard from Sorcery for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Move was late last year when the motion control-based action adventure game re-emerged from a media blackout with a batch of brand new screenshots and a new gameplay trailer.

Today though, Sony Computer Entertainment has been good enough to release another set of striking images for Sorcery, alongside the announcement of a late-May release date!

After the first official reveal of Sorcery for PlayStation Move at E3 2010, the game has gone into hibernation with little to no new information released since gamescom 2010 months later.

Finally, and here at the tail-end of 2011, a flood of new details (as well as screenshots and in-game footage) have emerged to assure us that the motion-controlled Sorcery is still very much alive and kicking.

If you happened to stroll through the streets of Cologne, Germany today you couldn’t help but to notice the vast number of Uncharted 3 billboard advertisements dominating the city. This prominence is, of course, due to the gamescom videogame expo, the largest in the world, which kicks off this week and will see scores of thousands of gaming fanatics pouring through the doors of the Koelnmesse to see the latest and greatest that the videogame world has to offer.
