Sega has a huge library of licenses and each license has a very familiar character. If you have a license and no game to go with it, you are not being very smart. Sumo Digital has a great kart racing game, but with no license to sell it with. Then the two of them hooked up in the backseat of a dirty car and the result is Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo-Kazooie. How Banjo and Kazooie, a duo mostly associated with Nintendo got involved is a story that I would rather not share.

The basic idea of SASASRWBK (if your title’s abbreviation is longer than most other titles, you know you should cut back a bit) is a karting game. If you have played any Mario Kart game you will know what to expect. The problem is that those expectations will be too high as it’s neither a great use of the license nor a great karting game.

Heavy Rain Logo

Heavy Rain has released to thunderous acclaim, snatching the No. 1 position on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart on debut and becomes Sony Computer Entertainment’s first number one release in the UK since Killzone 2 this time last year.

This turn of events pushes last week’s No. 1, Aliens VS Predator (sales down 38%), to No. 2 on the chart, which dislodges Just Dance (sales down 12%) from its long-held No. 2 position, finally forcing it down to No. 3.

Sega’s arcade racing game, Sonic & SEGA All–Stars Racing, launched across North America yesterday, and to celebrate the publisher has released a suitably colourful launch trailer.

Sonic & SEGA All–Stars Racing features a character roster including SEGA classics such as Sonic, Amigo, Tails, AiAi and Dr. Eggman, all competing for the top prize in a variety of colourful and creative race courses. Each of these characters has its own specific ‘All-Star move’ to gain an advantage over competitors, while power-ups can be collected around the courses.

A 1 GB demo for SEGA’s character compilation racing game, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, is now up on Xbox LIVE and available in all regions for your downloading pleasure… but it looks like it’s only accessible to Xbox LIVE Gold members on the minute. From the release:

“Join Sonic and his SEGA friends in the race of your life. Dodge weapons, perform tricks and drifts, seek short cuts and look out for that elusive all-star move pick-up as you blast past your rivals in to pole position. Winning has never tasted so sweet!”

SEGA has released a bunch of Xbox 360/PS3 and Wii screenshots showing off their new and upcoming arcade racing game, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing.
