Zipper Interactive has revealed details of a new downloadable content pack for SOCOM 4. Demolition, the series’ most popular mode, returns in this new pack, which is available on the PlayStation Store now for $9.99.
When will we finally be able to get our first hands-on with Resistance 3 multiplayer?
We were told previously that the multiplayer beta for Insomniac’s amazing Resistance 3 would begin in August for European PlayStation Plus subscribers, as well as North American gamers who had received a code with the purchase of SOCOM 4.
But… what date?
It’s time to find out who won SOCOM: Special Forces in El33tonline and Ster Kinekor’s recent competition! Was it you?
Was it you who won a copy of Zipper Interactive’s latest tactical third-person shooter? Is it you who will be indulging in that fully-featured squad-based singleplayer campaign, and diving into a super satisfying multiplayer game with an incredibly active online community?
And will it be you who wins a PlayStation 3 Headset to go along with that copy of SOCOM: Special Forces?
No more sandbagging…
It’s competition time on El33tonline once again, and this time we’ve teamed up with Ster Kinekor to give away an excellent SOCOM: Special Forces hamper, which includes both a copy of this military-themed shooter, as well as a SOCOM headset!
Keen to try your hand at winning the prize?
Great, because all you need to do is head on over to El33tonline’s SOCOM: Special Forces Competition page, and answer an easy question to enter the drawing.
Get going soldier!
As Tom points out below, South Africa has recently become gripped in a severely icy chill which is (hopefully) due dissipate in the next few days, but it’s no longer deniable: Old Man Winter has arrived in the country, and he’s as grumpy as ever.
What’s a gamer to do? Again, Tom provides an interesting thought on the correct course of action to take while ensconced in the cold, as do other members of El33tonline as we discuss what will be keeping us warm over the next two days:
Reports started to fly around very recently regarding layoffs at SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive, and Sony has unfortunately confirmed these reports, attributing the redundancies to “normal business practice.”
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me…
According to a report on Bloomberg, a Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) spokesperson has stated that the PlayStation Network will be up by the end of the month, following nearly twenty full days of inoperability.
The weekend has arrived one day early and will thankfully stick around for one day longer than usual, making for a welcome four-day respite from the normal rigours and challenges of everyday life.
It’s the rigours and challenges of a handful of videogames that we have to worry about now!
What can you busy yourself with this weekend if you find a bit of extra time? Why, you could enter El33tonline’s competitions and read over a bounty of game reviews and news!
What are we going to be busy with over the next few days? Let’s find out:
Can you smell that? Sniff. It’s the weekend, and after another busy week at El33t Towers we’re all looking forward to kicking off our shoes, settling into the couch and playing some awesome games. How about you?
Find out what the El33tonline Team will be up to over the next two days to relax as we get ready to bring you more awesome news, reviews and competitions next week.
The release of Zipper Interactive’s SOCOM 4 (or SOCOM: Special Forces in Europe) is just around the corner and is due to hit store shelves over the week of April 19th in North America and Europe, so naturally we’re going to start seeing a bit more chatter from the developer regarding its next realism-based military shooter.
In this video developer diary, members of Zipper talk about this realism, and the focus on an authentic experience with a well-told story wrapped around the gunfire, explosions and covert operations, while also discussing the reactive artificially intelligent enemies and how you’ll need to use your team to defeat these wily foes.
Also: Heaps of in-game footage is included in the video, which was nice of Zipper – looks impressive. Watch below:
There are two ways to get into the upcoming multiplayer beta for Resistance 3, depending on where in the world you live.
Live in the US? You’ll need to pick up a copy of SOCOM 4. If you’re in a PAL (i.e. EMEA) region, however, you’ll need to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to stand a chance of getting into the taster.
The European PlayStation Blog has just announced the next set of content all PlayStation Plus subscribers on PlayStation Network will be able to look forward to from now until the end of April (seeping into the beginning of May).
The content includes the usual assortment of free full PSN games, discounts, free themes and avatars, free full game trials, PlayStation mini games, as well as entry to the upcoming SOCOM: Special Forces beta.
Here’s the full list:

Game journalists from all around the world have been invited to get good looks and exclusive hands-on time with Sony Computer Entertainment’s upcoming line-up of PlayStation 3 titles at the publisher’s ‘PlayStation Experience’ event in London, and El33tonline is there!
El33tonline Editor-in-Chief Lisa is at the event right now, “braving the cold of zub-zero London temperatures,” and over the next few days will be seeing an amazing line-up of games including Resistance 3, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Killzone 3, PlayStation Move Heroes, inFamous 2, Journey, Ratchet & Clank: All4One, SOCOM: Special Forces… and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception!
Lisa is sending through a few live images snapped at the event so far, which is being held at The Tramshed, “an old electricity generation station situated in the heart of London Shoreditch.”
Looks like things are heating up, and Lisa will be sending through coverage of the event today and the coming week to fill us all in on the sights, sounds and games at the event! Definitely look forward to that, but for now you can whet your appetite for new information with a few photos:
