While you are racing around the track, don’t be surprised to drive into a large beach ball, cool drink bottle or even a giant human foot as you round a corner. Creat Studios and TikGames have announced that its upcoming arcade racer Smash Cars will be released on the PlayStation Network on the 20th of August.
A follow up to the original ‘no rules’ radio controlled racing game released by Creat Studios in 2003, Smash Cars is a tricked out single or six player online multiplayer RC toy car racing game. The game features real-time physics simulation and vehicle customization options that enable players to “twist and turn, grind and gear up, perform aerial tricks and stunts while racking up points as they knock friends off the track and race to the finish.”
Massachusetts based Creat Studios is a group that have been developing games for over 10 years (most notably Tony Hawk’s Motion on the DS and Coded Arms: Contagion on the PSP), but they have only recently begun publishing games on the PlayStation Network. They created really solid puzzle games with Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom, Cuboid and Magic Ball and have since released new downloadable content for these popular games to keep gamers’ minds puzzling.
Creat Studios is also working on Smash Cars, a follow up to the developer’s 2003 no rules radio controlled racing game, as well as two other PlayStation Network games announced at E3, Digger and Mushroom Wars, and their first DSiWare game, Alien Havoc.
Last week Creat Studios and TikGames announced the development of Smash Cars, a no rules radio controlled racing game heading to the PlayStation Network in Quarter 2 of 2009.
Smash Cars will see players roaring around a Mediterranean island, performing tricks and stunts to rack up trophies and using nitro-fueled rocket boosts to skid across the finishing line first in both single and multiplayer modes.
The first gameplay footage of the game has just been released, and while it is work-in-progress footage, it looks like the game is shaping up nicely. Head over to the Creat Studios website to watch the video and check out the first screens of the game below.

The follow up to the original Smash Cars, Creat’s 2003 ‘no rules’ radio controlled racing game, the new version will feature real-time physics, innovative stunts and next generation graphics.
The game will include both single and multiplayer modes where players “twist and turn, grind and gear up, performing aerial tricks and stunts while racking up trophies and points as they race to the finish.” Smash Cars will feature “fast-moving, bumper car gameplay style” that promises to transform the tranquil Mediterranean island where it is set into “a dynamically frenzied raceway.”
