The PlayStation Blog has just announced that the long-awaited Skype app for PS Vita will be available this week. The complimentary app will be available to download from the US PlayStation Store later today (UK gamers get it tomorrow) and can be used to make free video and voice calls to other Skype users.
If there weren’t already enough ways to occupy yourself on Facebook you can now video call your friends or leave them a video message. Facebook has partnered with Skype to bring users of the social network this free service, and apparently the two companies are also talking about bringing Skype’s paid products to the platform in the near future.
In a surprising turn of events, Microsoft has just announced its intention to acquire internet communication company Skype for a whopping $8.5 billion, following the entering into of a definitive agreement between both parties and the approval by each of the company’s board of directors.
The acquisition deal is still subject to approval by trade and regulation bodies, but the companies “hope to obtain all required regulatory clearances during the course of this calendar year.”
