Lucky for you, SingStar Afrikaanse Treffers has just been released for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, allowing you to get all of the South African culture and Afrikaans music hits you can possibly handle in one sitting!
Releasing today for the South African market, SingStar Afrikaans Treffers features a great range of classic Afrikaans music from artists such as Kurt Darren, Steve Hofmeyr and Jack Parrow, and applies the same rules of the SingStar karaoke franchise to this eclectic mix – grab a wireless SingStar microphone, bundle up a group of friends in front of the tellie, and sing your heart out!

The European PlayStation Store is all set to update with new downloadable items very soon, and when it does, you’ll gain access to all kinds of crazy new content, including special price offers, tons of music game tracks, a couple wallpapers and themes, add-on content and demos.
Highlights of this particular content update include the full season of Telltale’s Tales of Monkey Island for PS3, as well as the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP (available June 17th and 18th).

Sony has announced that the new Online Battle mode for SingStar will be available this June.
Once players have downloaded the new update they will be able to test out the new mode, pitting their vocal skills against PlayStation Network friends. Both players will need to own a song to play it once an invitation has been sent.
Sony has revealed the list of new songs that will be available on the SingStore this week.
European SingStars can look forward to two new chart-topping tracks, Pixie Lott’s ‘Mama Do’ and ‘In For the Kill’ from La Roux. Some golden oldies also arrive on the store this Thursday, including ‘Son of a Preacher Man’ from Dusty Springfield, ‘Mad World’ from Tears for Fears and the popular ‘Build me Up Buttercup’ by The Foundations.
A bunch of rock tracks will also be available on the European SingStore this week, including Nirvana, Black Sabbath and The Pixies. You will also be able to download the Dizzee Rascal Songpack.
Sony will be updating the SingStore with a plethora of new songs this week. American SingStars can look forward to tracks from Coldplay and a Blondie song pack while European gamers will be able to belt out classics fromTransvision Vamp and The Cure as well as a couple of new singles from The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs and even Will.I.Am.

Popular tracks from One Republic and Lady Gaga lead the European SingStore update this week.
‘Rehab’ from Amy Winehouse, Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ and ‘Don’t Cha’ by the PussyCat Dolls are just a few of the new tracks that will be available on the SingStore this Thursday, the 20th of August. Two big hits also arrive this week, ‘Apologize’ by Timbaland featuring One Republic and ‘Just Dance’ by Lady Gaga.
New tracks will be arriving on the US SingStore this week including songs from Take That and ‘I’m a Man of Constant Sorrow’ from the popular O Brother Where Art Thou movie.

Thanks to a new SingStore update coming this Thursday, all you SingStars out there can enjoy a new Take That songpack as well as three Blur tracks and even a few more angry P!ink tunes to mix things up.

Ever wondered what the top downloaded SingStar tunes around the world are? Well wonder no longer because here is the global SingStar Top 20 Download Chart for May, courtesy of SCEE’s PlayStation Blog.
Evanescence’s ‘Bring Me to Life’ is tops, followed by the popular tune ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and Metro Station’s ‘Shake it.’

An announcement on the US PlayStation Blog has revealed that a new patch for SingStar has been released which adds a bunch of new features to the PS3 SingStar experience.
The first addition is the ability to control which the tracks you’d like to perform with the amazing power of your voice. Yep, SingStar fans will now be able to “scroll through the song carousel and select the tracks they’d like to sing by simply speaking into the microphone.”
No more fumbling with a controller and a microphone!
SingStar Pop Edition for the PS3 will be arriving on UK shelves this month, the 22nd to be exact. SingStar fans will also be able to use the new wireless SingStar microphones that are now available across the UK for the game.
SingStar Pop Edition features a new voice control feature and includes a rocking soundtrack such as P!ink, Bon Jovi, Amy Winehouse and Chris Brown.
The wireless SingStar mics come with improved high-quality sound and are compatible with both the PS3 and PS2.

SCEE is pretty happy with all you PAL SingStar fans, so far you have downloaded 4 million extra tracks from the SingStore (60 000 per week!) and uploaded nearly 100 000 video performances on My SingStar Online. Just as well there are 1000 downloadable tracks on the SingStore for PS3 to keep the 6000 new fans that sign up per week and overall 400 000 SingStars entertained.
Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart is the top SingStore download, followed closely by Europe’s Final Countdown and Pink’s Just Like a Pill. It’s also interesting to hear that over 57 000 SongPack copies have been sold since the five pack SongPack first launched in October 2008.
With 16 million SingStar units sold since the franchise launched on the PS2 in 2004, SingStar is SCEE’s leading social gamers brand.
Sony of Europe has announced new Wireless SingStar Microphones as well as new details for SingStar Pop Edition for the PS3. The mics, which are compatible with the PS2 and PS3, will launch across the UK on the 20th of March, while the game will be released in April.
The mics have been given the thumbs up by the SingStar Community, much to the delight of Dave Ranyard, Executive Producer of the SingStar franchise. “We’re excited with the community’s response to Wireless Mics. Now SingStars can enjoy their experience wire-free – and test them out with the exciting launch of SingStar: Pop Edition along with hundreds of new tracks in SingStore. We’re looking forward to seeing your brand-new wireless videos at My SingStar Online or www.singstargame.com.”
SingStar Pop Edition includes a new voice-control feature that means you simply speak the track name into the mic and it will appear on the screen, no more need to pick up the PS3 controller! You can also shop and search through the SingStore using your voice.
The game features some cool new tracks from popular artists including Pink, Kings of Leon, Killers, Chris Brown and more.

It’s hard to believe it’s only been four years since Sony released the first SingStar, so seminal has the series become. Since then they have released more than 15 different discs, depending on what region you’re in, and it shows no sign of slowing down. And although the concept is now tried and tested it’s not tired just yet.
SingStar is a game series based around the idea of karaoke, but with original songs instead of covers and music videos instead of generic 3D rendered versions of you singing on screen. This in itself sets the series apart from most other music games (if not all?) as it allows you to enjoy the music video while you sing along to it. The pitch detection technology measures the pitch of your voice as you sing into the special microphones, comparing (or contrasting) it against the note you would be singing if you were the real artist.
