It’s been announced on the Sierra Community Forums that many of Sierra’s online game servers will be shut down come November 1st.

No reason for the shutdown was given, although, while the games in question are of the older variety, you can bet that the Activision/Vivendi merger had something to do with it.

Sierra has announced The Mummy: Tomb of the Dungeon Emperor will be released a week after Universal Pictures movie hits the circuit. The third-person action-adventure game is scheduled to be available in the UK from the 8th of August and across North America on the 22nd of July.

Eurocom Studios will be handling the development for the Wii and PS2 while A2M will be in charge of the Nintendo DS version. Players will step into the shoes of Rick O’ Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) and his son Alex (Luke Ford) as they journey to various exotic locations including Chinese catacombs and the Himalayas, struggling to defeat the revived servants of the Dragon Emperor (Jet Li).

In addition to hand-to-hand melee attacks, players will be able to make use of a fluid combat system and an arsenal of weaponry as they solve puzzles and decode hieroglyphics.

Sierra Entertainment has announced the third and final chapter in the Legend of Spyro trilogy will be released this fall on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2 and Nintendo DS.

Developed by Etranges Libellules, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon will see Elijah Wood and Gary Oldman reprising their roles as Spyro and his mentor Ignitus. Other actors to join the voice cast include Christina Ricci, Blair Underwood, Mark Hamill and Wayne Brady.

The game sees Spyro teaming up with Cynder, his formal enemy, as he faces his “most challenging mission to date.” Spyro must unlock the purple dragon’s power within himself to stop the Dark Master’s (voiced by Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker) evil plan.

For the first time Spyro can fly at any time and players can drop-in/drop-out with a new cooperative feature. Players will be able to complete the game as either Spyro or Cynder thanks to the cooperative feature.

Sierra Entertainment has revealed that Crash Bandicoot will be returning this fall in Crash Bandicoot: Mind over Mutant. Developed by Radical Entertainment, the game is scheduled to be released on the Wii, Xbox 360, PS2, Nintendo DS and PSP.

Crash Bandicoot: Mind over Mutant sees Cortex and N. Brio devising a new “text-messaging, do-anything device” which controls mutant and bandicoot minds. In addition to “new abilities and his signature Bandicoot hilarity,” Crash will be able to control his enemies when he jacks them and store his favourite monsters in his pocket, upgrade them and make use of their powers.

The game is set on Wumpa Island, a “free-romping” environment that allows players to explore different worlds, with different game play options being available depending on which creature accompanies you. Players will also be able to play as Crash’s sister Coco for the first time, adopting a new tactile treasure hunt ability.

Crash will feature new abilities including a roll and counter combat system (to dodge and inflict extra damage), digging (dig underground to unlock extra items) and climbing (climb vertically and jump side-to-side to access connected areas and avoid hazards).

The popular card game Lost Cities is this week’s Xbox Live offering. The game will be available on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points.

Developed by Sierra Online, Lost Cities sees players embarking on adventures though various lost cities including the Himalayas, Brazilian rain forest, the deserts of Egypt and ancient volcanoes.

Players will draw from a pool of cards, attempting to amass the most points. You will also be able to play Lost Cities with up to three friends on Xbox Live.

DC Comics and Sierra Entertainment are teaming up to publish a new comic book series based on the Prototype video game.

The series will debut this August via DC’s WildStorm. “We’re blown away with what Sierra and developer Radical Entertainment have shown us of Prototype, and know with absolute certainty that this will make for a terrific comic book,” said Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager, WildStorm.

Prototype comic“Prototype’s back-story, visuals and game play are stunning, and we have every intention of bringing those core pillars to our book because this is a great opportunity to expand on the world they’ve created, and build something new and interesting for comic book fans.”

Prototype sees players assuming the role of anti hero Alex Mercer, a genetically mutated shape-shifter who is suffering from amnesia. Set in modern day New York City, the game promises a three way war between Alex, the military’s elite Blackwatch division and a viral outbreak known as the Infected.

Prototype will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this fall.
