If you have never heard of the Civilization series of games, then you must either be new to gaming, or you were one of the guys landing in that bright light outside my window last night. If you have played any previous version, then you have probably only one question on your mind, to which I can answer: Civilization V is not the best strategy game available today. It is not even the best Civilization game today.
No, it might just be the 2nd best game of all time, following closely behind its predecessor, Civilization 4.

Are you all enjoying strategically (and not so strategically) taking over the world in Sid Meier’s Civilization V? Have you managed to conquer all of the empires and emerge as the one, true ‘Civilization’? * trumpets *
Well, that’s just grand, because 2K Games has revealed that Civ V players will soon be able to let two more empires into their virtual world with the release of two downloadable content packs next week.
At the beginning of the month Firaxis announced that a demo for the studio’s highly anticipated strategy game, Civilization 5, would be arriving before the full release of the title.
Now, though, due to the amount of work necessary to finish up the game (y’know, the work Firaxis is meant to be doing), the demo will only be available on the same day as the title’s release in North America.
From a blog post on the official Civilization 5 site:
The team at Firaxis has announced that a demo for Sid Meier’s Civilization V will become available later this year, ahead of the release of the full game in September.
This will give the legions of Civilization franchise fans an early sneak peek at the studio’s upcoming strategy game, as well as give unconvinced members of the gaming public an opportunity to see what all the fuss is about.
From a post on the official Civilization V website:
This September, the state of Maryland, USA will officially recognise the achievements of videogame development studio Firaxis, and studio head Sid Meier, and has proclaimed September 21st 2010 “Sid Meier’s Civilization V Day” – the day that the PC strategy game is released in the US.
2K Games has taken the wraps off a Special Edition for Sid Meier’s Civilization V, the next instalment in the popular turn-based strategy franchise. The Special Edition will include collectible items as well as exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content. It will be available for $99.99 on the 21st of September in North America alongside the standard retail edition.
Take-Two Interactive recently let the word out that two of their highly anticipated games, the Wild West open-world shooter Red Dead Redemption, and the mobster-themed open-world shooter Mafia II, have both been delayed.
While Red Dead Redemption now has a new set in stone release date, Mafia II doesn’t, but the publisher promises stockholders (and gamers!), that it won’t slip past October 31st this year… although we’ve heard that song before.
