[Updated] Jason Kingsley, CEO Rebellion, has sent out a message: “No-one has been made redundant by Rebellion in more than a decade, and the Derby studio is very much still open while we conduct the review.
“We are currently undergoing a process of consultancy with our staff to get their ideas, and establish the best possible future for the Derby studio.” [End of Update]
It’s being strongly rumoured that the studio formerly known as Core Design (creators of Tomb Raider), and more recently going by the name of Rebellion Derby, has been closed down following the poor reception of Shellshock 2: Blood Trails and Rogue Warrior, both of which had been handled and developed by the studio in some capacity.
Eidos have announced the official release date for their upcoming Vietnam first-person shooter, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, as new screenshots reveal, in some detail, what the game will look like.
The sequel to the original Shellshock: Nam ’67, Shellshock 2 puts players up against a brand new challenge, injecting large doses of fear into the mix. After a special operations unit is sent into the heart of the jungle to retrieve a missing package, only one of the elite soldiers returns from the depths, his mind having been warped by an evil presence which has followed the soldier out into the world.
General Manager of Eidos Games Studios, Lee Singleton says of the game: “Shellshock 2: Blood Trails takes players to a Vietnam War unlike any they will have experienced before. This is a war where your enemy doesn’t just want you dead… it wants to rip you to pieces. As the infected turn one-by-one, your instinct to fight becomes an instinct for flight, to leave the real horror of this war far behind.”
Shellshock 2: Blood Trails releases in Europe on February 13th, on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. You can have a gander at a nice, creepy trailer for Shellshock 2, or peep some more screenshots below:
After a top-secret consignment, codenamed ‘Whiteknight’, is lost in the deepest jungles of Vietnam, a team of Special Operatives are sent in to retrieve it, only the team, one by one, mysteriously disappear. One month later, however, a single soldier emerges from the jungle, crazed and deranged, as though some thing has torn his mind apart - and that thing has followed him out of the jungle.
That’s the basic set-up for Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, a new first-person war game in the Shellshock franchise that focuses on horror and fear as opposed to mindlessly shooting enemies. General Manager of Eidos Game Studios, Lee Singleton, explained:
“Shellshock 2 is very different to any first person shooter you’ve seen before; at times it feels more like you’re in a horror movie than a game. Survival takes on a new meaning as you fight against all sides of the conflict: your enemy, your allies and the victims… the casualties of Whiteknight, an enemy that ultimately has no side.”
