This week’s Media Create software chart is one of the most exciting we’ve seen this year, with no fewer than eight new titles in the top ten.

What’s particularly interesting is the wide range of genres and consoles represented by these best-selling games. The Xbox 360 gets some much needed attention from the Japanese audience with the release of Gears of War 3 - Microsoft’s heavy-hitter sold 56 113 copies during its opening week, slotting in at number four on the chart.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Badge It was just over a month ago that we received the bad news that Team ICO’s next creations had been delayed until an uncertain time in the future, with fears that both The Last Guardian and the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection for PlayStation 3 would only see a release sometime in 2012.

Fortunately, ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection has just received solid release dates for both North America and Europe.

The Last Guardian Image Our team was always hesitant about believing that The Last Guardian would release in 2011. That’s because Team ICO is renowned for being unusually fastidious when crafting their games.

The PlayStation 2 classic Shadow of the Colossus took four years to make, and nearly six years later we’re still waiting for The Last Guardian.

Unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to get our hands on this highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) just confirmed that it has delayed the release of The Last Guardian to an as yet unspecified date.

Tokyo Game Show this year has been pretty significant for Sony’s Team Ico, the creators of classic PlayStation titles Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and the upcoming spectacular-spectacular, The Last Guardian.

Not only have we been able to catch extended looks at the new title, with a release date of 2011 attached, but it’s been officially announced that high definition versions of both of the studio’s previous games will be coming to PS3 next year in a bundle package.

The Last Guardian ImageAfter such exciting reveals and announcements it’s always nice to hear from developers working on these projects, and if there’s one individual we would want to hear from at Team Ico, it would be studio head Fumito Ueda, so this interview that was recently posted on the PlayStation Blog comes as an especially special treat.

The interview tells us more about The Last Guardian and where the development team is currently at with the project, and also reveals Ueda’s thoughts on stereoscopic 3D and its inclusion in the HD remake package.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus BadgeAfter months of rumour, speculation, retail ‘confirmation,’ consumer demand and publisher hesitance, it’s finally been confirmed that two PlayStation 2 classic games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, will be making their way to the PlayStation 3 in high definition glory.

Speaking to VG247, a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) representative said:

Shadow of the Colossus BoxshotSpeaking to videogame consumer site 1up, the leader of Team ICO has stated that he would like to see his studio’s previous games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, re-released on the PS3 in a combo pack in the same vein as the upcoming God of War Collection. Ueda said of the idea:

“Initially, I didn’t want to consider that; I always thought they were designed for PS2 and should stay there. But lately, I’ve been thinking it would be nice to provide the games to other platforms to reach more users.”

Sony unveiled the third project from Team ICO at their E3 press conference last night. Although the first footage of the game was stumbled upon last month under the codename of Project Trico, last night Sony officially revealed that the third game from the developers of classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be called The Last Guardian.

Check out the debut trailer below for a peak at the main characters, a young boy and a large mythical creature as they explore the ruins of a fortress.

The gaming world has been set ablaze over the last few hours as the first (unofficially released) footage of Trico has been leaked. Although it’s apparently over a year old at this point, the footage has been confirmed to be from Fumito Ueda’s development team and current project, Trico.

Trico, a game from the developers of classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, looks to follow the look and feel of its predecessors, while introducing a whole new element to the experience in the form of a friendly, giant bird… cat… thing.

Watch (and wipe away a tear) below:

Shadow of the Colossus Screenshot 3Various sources indicate that Shadow of the Colossus is being made into a film. Kevin Misher is said to be producing the feature which is under development at Sony Pictures Entertainment (sibling to the game’s publisher Sony Computer Entertainment) while Justin Marks will be in charge of the script (who also penned Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li).

Shadow of the Colossus was released across North America for the PS2 in 2005 and quickly became something of a cult hit among videogamers. The game comes from the makers of ICO and sees players assuming the role of a young warrior named Wander who is desperate to save the love of his life, Mono. Armed with only a sword, bow and your trusty steed Agro, you are plunged into this quest to conquer 16 Colossi in order to save the young woman.

Well, I guess this was inevitable; we were all expecting there to be a new game for the PS3 by the people that made ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I mean, what other platform would a Sony-owned studio develop for? But it’s nice to know that it actually is happening, and that they’ve made screenshot for us, or at least to attract potential recruits.

One of the SCEI careers pages has been updated, saying some like “The makers of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are working on a PlayStation 3 project,” and that they’re hiring.

The guys over at Team Ico Gamers, who are apparently huge fans of the previous two games, seem to be the ones that noticed first - I guess they were looking for jobs with Ueda’s team.

Team ICO is working on a sequel. Whether it is a sequel to ICO or Shadow of the Colossus is still anyone’s guess. When questioned by the Official PlayStation Magazine UK about what Team ICO were up to, Sony boss Kaz Hirai pleaded ignorance, however, luckily for us one of his executives piped up ‘I’m pretty sure they’re doing the sequel.’

Unfortunately the mistaken slip was soon realized and nothing further was said so we are still in the dark as to whether the sequel is to ICO or Shadow of the Colossus. For all we know they could be leading us all up the garden path.

This is all according to a recent post on Team ICO Gamers Blog which relayed the encounter as discussed in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK. Previous reports have indicated that the sequel will be for the PS3.

To decide which sequel you should hold thumbs for, head over to EL33TONLINE’s reviews of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
