Fable III got a new showing at the Game Developers Conference this year, and with it, a new set of screenshots were released by Microsoft and developers Lionhead to reveal one of the sections from the game – what looks to be an abandoned mine haunted by ghostly soldiers. Isn’t that always the way?

Lionhead’s Peter Molyneux, as usual, spilled a few more beans about the project, including the reveal that non other than British comedian and actor John Cleese will play the role of your in-game butler, in addition to the news that, in some form or another, Fable III will include support for the social messaging system, Twitter, as Molyneux says:

Telltale Games (the developer who makes “awesome episodic adventure games” including Tales of Monkey Island, Strong Bad and Wallace & Gromit) have revealed their plans to launch a game on the PS3 for the first time. That game will be Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse and the first episode of the third season of this popular series will be arriving on the PlayStation Network on the 15th of April (it will also be coming to the PC and Mac).

EA has released another batch of interesting screenshots for this year’s Medal of Honor reboot, revealing a few fellow soldiers in tense, moody situations, perhaps as they gear up and prepare for an important operation, or set out on an early morning patrol. Who knows.

The real life Fifa World Cup taking place right here in South Africa begins in under 100 days (94 to be exact), but you’ll be able to start your very own campaign to become world champion of the football/soccer world when EA Sports’ 2010 Fifa World Cup: South Africa videogame releases on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP and mobile platforms at the end of April.

To get you just a little bit more excited for the kick-off, EA has released a handful of new screenshots, as well as an excellent brand new trailer featuring the “Wavin’ Flag” song (by K’naan, off of the Troubadour album), with generous helpings of in-game footage to whet your appetite.

Ubisoft has taken the wraps off Pure Football, a new sports brand that is being developed by Ubisoft Vancouver and set to be released worldwide in May. The publisher has not yet confirmed platforms but it will more than likely be available on all consoles.

Portal 2 Lucid ImageValve Software officially announced Portal 2 late last week, bringing to an end a week of fun but brain-teasingly difficult sleuth work by Team Internet.

During the unprecedented turmoil presented to gamers last week (especially for so early in the year) as the PlayStation 3 took a day off, and Activision and Infinity Ward’s ex-heads of studio took turns to slug it out, Valve Software (Half-Life, Team Fortress 2) quietly went about the business of releasing extra content for its 2007 ‘surprise’ hit of the year, Portal, adding an entirely new ending and new in-game, coded audio messages.

Last week Crystal Dynamics announced that they were hard at work on a new adventure for the popular dame Lara Croft. The new entry is titled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and will be available later this year as a digital download.

EA has punched through two brand new screenshots for Crytek’s upcoming multiplatform first-person shooter, Crysis 2, to show off snapshots of what are hopefully in-game action sequences, with slightly better looks at the new urban environment and the upgraded Nanosuit from the first game.

EA Partners (a division of EA) and Hothead Games are set to publish the latest game from Ron Gilbert, the popular creator of The Secret of Monkey Island.

DeathSpank will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network sometime this year. The game is being developed under the guidance of Gilbert and is said to blend a “story filled with Gilbert’s unique humor and wit with classic and addictive action RPG gameplay.”

EA Partners and Vancouver-based developer Klei Entertainment are teaming up to bring Shank, an “evocative cinematic brawler” to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and PC this summer.

Said to feature a unique art style that is inspired by graphic novels and golden age comics, Shank “blends the intensity of classic 2D side-scrolling action games with a gripping and mature storyline.”
