Telltale Games LogoLate last week Telltale Games (Sam & Max, Tales of Monkey Island) confirmed that not only is the development team working on episodic game adaptations of comic books ‘Fables’ and ‘The Walking Dead,’ while continuing work on games based on ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Back to the Future,’ but the studio also revealed that it would be bringing a classic Sierra-borne (Activision-owned) franchise back to life: King’s Quest.

Sam and Max Season 3, The Devil’s Playhouse Episode 5 – The City That Dares Not Sleep is as long as titles get. It’s so long in fact, that its bordering ridiculous! But then again ‘ridiculous’ has never been above Sam and Max, so that sort of behavior is not exactly discouraged around here. Typing long titles over and over is discouraged (for my own sanity), so lets just call this game The City That Dares Not Sleep.

‘Beyond the Alley of the Dolls’ is the fourth episode in the current season of Sam and Max games, and it should be made clear from the start that in order to get the most enjoyment out of this episode, you really should play the first three games. The story follows on, and some scenes reference the previous episodes. Yet if you wanted to take the plunge and jump into episode 4, then you won’t be hindered too much.

Well, yes, obviously, there are five episodes planned and they would be rather silly if the main stars did not make it into the last episode!

Telltale Games has done wonders for both reviving adventure games (they never died, they never will die!) and episodic games. Sam and Max has to be their best series as they are now in their third season, and picking up momentum in every game. Looking at the content of this game makes you wonder how they can trump it with more weird and wacky ideas. At some point they have to run out, right?
