EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: rumour
Rumours and leaks are nothing new in the videogame industry and history shows us that a large percentage of claims relating to unannounced games or release dates end up being true. The latest unconfirmed report comes from WiiUDaily and cites a US and Japanese launch date for the Wii U.
A keen eye recently spotted a listing for Trials Evolution on the Xbox Marketplace. The listing has since been changed, but the original page showed that the release of RedLynx’s new Xbox LIVE title could be sooner than expected.
Retail listings for unannounced HD Collections on PS3 seem to be a trend these days. Last year the Jak & Daxter Collection was outed by South African retailer BT Games and now Amazon France has gone and posted a premature listing for the Ratchet & Clank HD Collection.

Ubisoft is doing its very best to drum up hype for what it calls a “major announcement” in the coming days for the next fully numbered instalment in the publisher’s incredibly popular Assassin’s Creed franchise.
After a collection of leaked screenshots were dumped onto the ‘net yesterday, supposedly showcasing areas from id Software’s still in-development DOOM 4 project, a brand new selection of images have appeared with more areas from the game on show.
Just to add credence to the idea that these screenshots are from the next DOOM game, some of the images were labelled ‘before hell wave’ while a number of the screens included renders of models that looked decidedly hellish in nature, with buildings being ‘eaten’ and ‘nests’ of goop coagulating in corners.
We haven’t included the renders, but here are a batch of new screenshots from… a game that’s being made… somewhere:
A quick-fire rumour emerging today once again swirled around the possible cancellation of id Software’s DOOM 4 (or ‘next DOOM’) project, but parent company Bethesda Softworks was once again quick to squash that particular bit of speculation amid an apparent leak of screenshots from the game.
Are these images from DOOM 4? They certainly look of the calibre of something like RAGE and the id Tech 5 engine. Decide for yourself by perusing the rest of the shots below:
While it may seem as though we’ve created the ‘H33rsay’ topic category just for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, this is in fact not the case… despite the evidence.
In the latest bit of Modern Warfare 3 rumour-mongering, it seems as though we’ll all get our first official peek at Activision’s next blockbuster first-person shooter next week.
Regarding a possible Modern Warfare 3 debut reveal during the upcoming NBA Western Conference Finals, NeoGAF user Sho_Nuff82 posted:
[Update No. 2] The worst fears have come to pass: Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that PlayStation Network user data has been compromised, and unauthorised persons may have already obtained your private information. Get the details over here. [End of Update No. 2]
[Update No. 1] SCE is currently sending out a message to game developers working on PlayStation titles, warning of ‘emergency maintenance’ - details below. [End of Update No. 1]
What’s the latest official news on the extended PlayStation Network outage? Patrick Seybold writes on the PlayStation Blog:
Join us now as we journey into a world of magic and whimsy. A land jostling and heated with madness and chaos. A kingdom twisted and warped by regurgitated lies, half-truths and mirrored reality, all moulded into a lonesome form that would send you on a voyage of insanity with a single blink of its crusted eye.
Welcome to… ‘The Rumour Zone!’
Earlier this week, rumours began swirling regarding the existence of the next full adventures of everyone’s favourite tomb raiding heroine, Lara Croft, with mixed reports coming in stating that the game is titled ‘Downfall,’ and is slated for a ‘Christmas 2011’ release.
It seems these reports are false.
Citing information from a “highly-placed source,’ videogame consumer blog VG247 has revealed that Sony is set to announce premium (i.e. not free) PlayStation Network services at E3 in June.
While this may seem like immediate cause for concern, the source made it clear that none of the plans surrounding these premium services will affect the currently free aspects of the PlayStation Network, and will be offered in addition to what’s already available.
With just over a month to go until Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP hits shelves across the globe, Konami appears to be gauging interest in bringing the game to the PlayStation Network.
That’s according to GamePro who report that a representative of the publisher quizzed attendants at a recent press conference whether they would be interested in Peace Walker on the PlayStation Network with PS3 online multiplayer. The representative is also reported to have written the answers down.
Even though we’re still waiting for the officially official announcement from Epic, reports regarding Gears of War 3’s gameplay and mission details have already begun to surface, with talk of underwater missions, new additions to gameplay that will change the series’ cover mechanic, and a mech suit.
These details come from Edge Online, so they’re not to be sneezed at, and were provided by a mysterious ‘US publishing source’ – the same source who let the word out that Gears of War 3 would release in April of 2011.
According to reports doing the rounds, the next entry to the Call of Duty franchise is to be called Call of Duty 7: Black Ops, and will feature the same environment and character hopping gameplay we’ve come to expect from previous games in the series, with settings such as Cuba, areas of South America, and London, England tipped to be included in the game.
Earlier today news broke out regarding Nintendo’s 3DS, a new DS handheld from the hardware and publishing giant that is set to incorporate 3D technology without the need for special glasses to enable the visuals.
While we’ll only officially get our first look at the 3DS hardware itself and software running on the device at this year’s E3 in June, unconfirmed details have begun to emerge as to what kind of specifications we can expect, and what kind of technology is running the 3D capabilities of the handheld.
