Another edition of the Spike Video Game Awards has come and gone, but not without its fair share of excitement!

Not only were brand new, unknown games revealed in the form of ‘The Last of Us’ from Naughty Dog and ‘Fortnite’ from Epic Games, but we also got our first looks at titles like Command & Conquer: Generals 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, Amazing Spider-Man and Alan Wake: American Nightmare, not to mention new looks at other incredible games.

To top it all off, the ‘awards’ portion of the show didn’t disappoint, either, as worthy games all walked away with the recognition they deserve.

El33tonline covered all of these announcements, peeks and awards, and you can find our round-up of the excitement below:

EA had a busy E3 week, amazing us with new footage, revealing new games and even stamping release dates on a few upcoming titles.

There was no doubt that Battlefield 3, EA and DICE’s upcoming blockbuster military shooter, dominated the line-up. While we were amazed by excellent screenshots and gameplay videos for the game, we were even more excited to hear that Battlefield 3 would be released on the 25th of October in North America and the 28th of October in European territories. Not to mention the news that a beta would be available in September.

Even in this day and age of internet scoops, Nintendo managed to surprise us with a few announcements at the publisher’s E3 press conference this year.

At the top of the list was the Wii U, Nintendo’s next home console and the successor to the Wii. The tablet-like controller for the Wii U has a touchscreen, dual analogue circle pads, motion controls, speakers, a microphone and a camera. The controller screen can be used instead of or along with HDTV.

Tokyo Game Show 2010 took place just a little earlier this month, and judging by past shows, it seemed as though it was going to be ‘a bit of a snooze.’ Maybe we would see a couple new games announced. Maybe we would get some more screenshots and trailers for games we already knew about. Maybe some new information would be released.

But when TGS 2010 finally hit on September 16th, and continued to strike throughout the week and into the weekend, it was clear that shows of the past were not a good barometer for this year’s event.

At least thirteen new games were announced during TGS 2010, tons of extremely exciting new trailers and screenshots were released for all kinds of games, and fresh, intriguing morsels of information were released to tease us about upcoming titles.

Tokyo Game Show Image Not only all of that, but it was revealed that over 200 000 people attended TGS 2010 over the four days of operation, comprising people from the public and business sectors alike – a record number of visitors for the show. These visitors also voted on their favourite upcoming games seen at the show, which resulted in a group of ten titles that won the honours at the annual Future Division Awards ceremony, with Vanquish and Gran Turismo 5 amongst the games acknowledged.

What games were announced at TGS 2010, however, and what, exactly, did these new screenshots and trailers look like?

We’ve got you covered!
