It’s been some time since legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island) was in the position to promote a brand new videogame, especially one with distinct ‘adventure game’ elements to it, but SEGA and Double Fine have remedied this with the announcement of The Cave.
[Update]
And they’ve done it! Within hours of setting up a Kickstarter project Double Fine has reached its target of $400 000 to help fund Double Fine Adventure - and cash is still pouring in!

[End of update]
Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions have taken a leap of faith and asked the gaming community (and the world at large) to fund a new development project, and by the looks of things, the studio’s faith is very well placed!
Kotaku has revealed that legendary videogame designer and humour architect, Ron Gilbert, has recently joined up with fellow laughter-machine (and equal industry luminary), Tim Schafer, by signing up for duty at Schafer’s San Francisco-based Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts, Brütal Legend).
In a post on his own site, Grumpy Gamer, Gilbert confirms the news in his own typical fashion, writing:
“According to Kotaku I’ve gone to work for Double Fine. I don’t even know where to begin with this completely unsubstantiated fact-less slanderous rumor… oh wait… my mistake… it’s totally true.”
The Justice-filled action RPG, DeathSpank, released fully on Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network yesterday, and is now available to purchase and download for measly sums of digital currency… but you’re not completely convinced just yet, are you, otherwise you’d already have bought DeathSpank by now, right?
That’s OK! All investments take a little time and consideration, so while you mull over the entertainment proposition put forward by Ron Gilbert and Hothead Games’ DeathSpank, why don’t you watch two excellent videos from the downloadable title to see extended sections of gameplay, and get a better idea of what you’ll be doing:
“A trailer for a game’s weapons? Really?”
Really.
Honestly, at this stage we would use any excuse we could to talk more about Hothead’s action RPG, DeathSpank, and if we have to post up a weapons and loot trailer, so be it. Although this particular weapons and loot trailer is a little bit different, thanks to the inclusion of a… certain item. A certain ‘Unicorn-related’ item.
It’s very rare and very special.
To get ready for DeathSpank’s release on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, and then on Xbox LIVE Arcade on Wednesday, check out some of the magical (and not so magical) items you’ll be able to find in the game with the ‘Epic Weapons’ trailer below:
Two new videos for EA and Hothead Games’ upcoming action-RGP DeathSpank have surfaced, and both are a must-see if you’re counting down the days until you can begin the quest of the “Dispenser of Justice,” “Vanquisher of Evil” and “Hero to the Downtrodden.”
And it’s not long to go now because DeathSpank will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on the 13th of July for $14.99, with Xbox Live following on the 14th of July for 1200 MS Points.
EA and Hothead Games have announced that the upcoming humorous action-RPG DeathSpank will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on the 13th of July for $14.99, with Xbox Live following on the 14th of July for 1200 MS Points.
Hothead Games and Ron Gilbert’s upcoming DeathSpank looks to be an excellently humorous action RPG, set in a wonderfully fleshed out and colourful world.
With the release of DeathSpank on Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network in the coming months, it would be advisable to watch a couple videos taken from the game to see a slice of combat gameplay, as well as an example of one of the many challenging (and peculiar) quests you’ll be faced with during this epic adventure:
“Dispenser of Justice,” “Vanquisher of Evil” and “Hero to the Downtrodden,” DeathSpank is many things to many people, but he’s on a quest to become worthy of the power of a relic known only as “The Artefact,” and on his journey he’ll encounter at least one drunken leprechaun, several unicorns, and many orphans.
Oh, and “Forbidden Bacon.”
To see this action RPG in action, as well as all of the above-mentioned obstacles (and more), you can head on down below to watch the latest released story trailer for Hothead Games’ DeathSpank, heading to PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Arcade soon:
