If you thought that Batman: Arkham City would be a critical and commercial smash hit following its release last week… you would be very correct.
Warner Bros. Interactive has just announced that Rocksteady Studios’ latest Batman action adventure title has gone on to sell over four million units during its first week on sale.
After our recent interview with Rocksteady Studio’s lead narrative designer Paul Crocker, and following our excellent discussions on the story of Batman: Arkham City and the work that went into the game’s narrative, we were handed a matte finish black folder.
At first, we didn’t know what it was - it looked so clean and sharp - and if we hadn’t been told it was a press kit for Batman: Arkham City, we would have thought it was a bonus included in a special collector’s edition of the game.

The next excellent digital adventure of The Batman arrives in stores in North America today and later this week around the rest of the world in the form of Batman: Arkham City.

Another fact is that only the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Arkham City are making their way out into the world this week - the PC version hit a bit of snag.
Batman: Arkham City launches today in North America on Xbox 360 and PS3, but it won’t be long before the rest of the world gets its collective hands on Rocksteady’s crushing action adventure title as it heads to retail over the next few days.
One of the gaming events of 2011 (also known as the release of Batman: Arkham City) is almost upon us, and next week the world will be able to entrench itself in the jaw-dropping open-world of Rocksteady’s next action adventure title.
The number of characters included in Batman: Arkham City is increasing with what seems like every passing day, with full looks and quick glimpses at personalities such as The Riddler, The Penguin, Two-Face, Joker, Harley Quinn and even Bane.
Very recently, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive announced a new character that will play a part in Batman’s next mighty videogame adventures, Talia al Ghul, while also revealing who will be playing this “complex character.”
We caught our first glimpses of Rocksteady’s version of classic Batman enemy The Penguin earlier this year, and now in a brand new gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham City, we get to see him in motion and hear him speak with a British accent!
But… who is that waiting for Batman at the bottom of a pit? Could it be the genetically-enhanced Bane?

With the confirmation that Batman universe villain The Riddler would play a larger role in Batman: Arkham City than he did in Arkham Asylum, a criminal mastermind of great intelligence was added to Batman’s burgeoning list of powerful adversaries, but instead of using his brainpower for good, The Riddler instead spends his time constructing deadly puzzles, as well as rhymes with mischievous repercussions.

When discussing Batman: Arkham City, it’s sometimes difficult to contain our enthusiasm around here at El33tonline – this game is looking truly mighty!
With the reveal the other day that there is a second playable character in Arkham City in the form of Catwoman, and the hordes of previously released screenshots, videos and information for the game (not to mention that it’s following up the outstanding Batman: Arkham Asylum), we’re definitely looking forward to the end of October!
Fan-favourite DC Comics character Catwoman has been confirmed to be a playable character in Rocksteady’s upcoming Batman: Arkham City, according to an interview with the studio’s Dax Ginn conducted by consumer site Gamespot.
Batman: Arkham City is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest and best singleplayer experiences. Many of us who played Batman: Arkham Asylum recognise it as one of the brightest stars this generation, despite repetitive combat mechanics and some squandered potential here and there.
Rocksteady’s latest project just received some added impetus with the announcement that supervillain The Penguin will be starring in Arkham City, alongside the rest of Gotham’s uber-degenerates.
The British developer’s Dax Ginn had this to say about the nose-chomping fiend:
