Warners Bros has just released a new trailer for Batman: Arkham City, this one showcasing the abilities, training and weaponry of Nightwing who will feature in the upcoming Nightwing Bundle Pack.
One of the most anticipated blockbuster games of the year released this week around the world from Rocksteady Studios, the creator’s of 2009’s incredible Batman: Arkham Asylum, and in Batman: Arkham City, players will explore an amazingly detailed open-world while once again matching wits and resolve with The Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker.
A new villain, Hugo Strange, has also arrived on the scene as the steward of ‘Arkham City,’ a prison district sectioned off from Gotham that currently houses some of the most vile and dastardly ne’er-do-wells ever seen.
Naturally, there are foul goings-on in the massive metropolis and as T. Batman, players will be tasked with getting to the bottom of the trouble while meeting a huge cast of fan-favourite characters, all while gliding around the city and beating up a mountain of goons.
From what we’ve seen of Batman: Arkham City so far, its place on many a ‘Game of the Year’ list (and even ‘favourite game of all time’ lists) is assured, so Lisa and I jumped at the opportunity to speak with lead narrative designer at Rocksteady, Paul Crocker, about his work on the title, the challenges of writing for an open-world game, the value of collaboration, and more.
The gamescom 2011 demonstration for Batman: Arkham City was thankfully a little different (or a lot different, depending on your experience with these things) from other game presentations that we’ve seen so far, and not only because of its focus on peripheral modes in the game, as opposed to the title’s 40-hour plus singleplayer campaign.

With so many epic titles being released in November it’s heartening to know that there’s Batman: Arkham City to keep us enthralled a month prior to this deluge of gaming goodness. London-based developer Rocksteady have already proved with Arkham Asylum that they’re one of the few studios who can make superhero games work, so we’re more than entitled to have high hopes for the sequel.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady Studios, “continuing Warner Bros.’ pattern as one of the industry’s fastest growing games publishers.”
According to Warner, Batman: Arkham Asylum has shipped over three million units worldwide and received numerous industry awards, and as a reward for Rocksteady’s fantastic work on the title, the developer is being shared up, with Square Enix (owners of Eidos, who published Arkham Asylum) hanging on to 25 percent of the studio.
President, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, Kevin Tsujihara said of the deal:
In the latest edition of what seems to be a veritable stream of Batman: Arkham Asylum media, Harley Quinn, one of a regular cast of Batman characters, shows her make-up encrusted face.
With The Joker, Bane, Harley Quinn and others already confirmed for Arkham Asylum, it looks like the game will be a veritable (there’s that word again) Lollapalooza of Batman ‘lore.’

Batman fans, your time has come. Not only is the new Batman game, Batman: Arkham Asylum, set to feature some of the original voice cast from the TV animated series, and not only is the game looking fantastic, but it also seems as though developers Rocksteady are taking the license seriously, crafting a game that is worthy of the history the Batman franchise has accumulated over the years.
Case in point: The latest trailer to be released for Batman: Arkham Asylum shows off all of the above, effectively setting the mood for the game to come. While it contains scenes from previous teaser trailers, this one features new footage with the voice cast doing their thing. Watch below:
