The last day or two has been awash in exciting morsels of news, so much so that it’s been a little troublesome trying to keep up with it all!
That’s why we’ve rounded up a few of the more interesting announcements and reveals all together in one handy collection so you can find out a little bit more about Respawn Entertainment’s first game, how Modern Warfare 3’s Killstreaks are going to be revamped, how Age of Conan has gone free-to-play, and more!
According to social media message postings by Bethesda Softworks’ community manager Nick Breckon, some big names are going to be attending QuakeCon in Dallas, Texas in two weeks time – names that may just be ready to make a big announcement.
It would seem that Respawn Entertainment have a few tricks up their sleeve for next week’s E3 expo.
Of course we wouldn’t really expect anything less after they stepped into the spotlight when the studio’s founders, Vince Zampella and Jason West, were forced by Activision to depart from Infinity Ward, quickly forming the new game development studio and a publishing partnership with EA.
Now it seems as if the pair is ready to reveal something big, perhaps details of a new project? The latest status update on Zampella and West’s Facebook page reads: “Big time announcement at E3 next week. Stay tuned, kiddies!”
On the back of the news that Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward has recently become eight employees lighter, Respawn Entertainment has recently become a few employees heavier, with the addition of three former Infinity Ward developers to the roster of ‘Respawners.’
Eight more developers (including the two mentioned in George Broussard’s Twitter Tweet) are confirmed to have left the employ of Call of Duty house Infinity Ward, bringing the total number of employees who have left the studio since the beginning of March (either forcibly or of their own volition) up to a not-inconsiderable 26.
[Update] According to a Twitter tweet by 3D Realms’ George Broussard, two more developers (including former 3D Realms staffer Charlie Wiederhold) have also left Infinity Ward. [End of Update]
Has a series of resignations from a game development studio ever been so high profile? In this age of instant access to Twitter tweets, Facebook status updates and LinkedIn profile changes, have game developers ever been under so much scrutiny over their choice of employer?
The ruckus caused by the forced departures of Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West obviously has something to do with the magnifying glass now constantly hovering over the studio, watching for even the slightest sign of movement and recording the fact that (at last count) thirteen developers (including Zampella and West) have left the studio since the beginning of March - but the unprecedented level of exposure with regards to Infinity Ward in this case is amazing, and must be at least a little unnerving to those developers who have become the focal point of proceedings.
Seven of the former Infinity Ward employees who had left the studio over the course of the last three weeks have landed at the game development outfit, Respawn Entertainment, confirming rife speculation that these developers would join up with their former bosses, Vince Zampella and Jason West, at their newly formed company.
In what is fast becoming daily news, it’s being reported that an additional two Infinity Ward employees are leaving the studio to seek employment elsewhere.
Former Infinity Ward developers Vince Zampella and Jason West have jointly announced the formation of a new game development studio by the name of Respawn Entertainment, while revealing a publishing partnership with Electronic Arts.
This follows the industry-rocking split between Activision Blizzard and Zampella/West, when Activision forcibly removed the pair from their own studio, Infinity Ward, at the beginning of March.
