The Resistance Dual Pack has arrived on shelves across North America. The box includes Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, as well as extra DLC and is available for $39.99.

The extra DLC includes the Aftermath Multiplayer maps and skins for Resistance 2 as well as the exclusive weapon skin for the Wraith.

EA has announced that the company’s internal label, EA Partners, has signed a publishing agreement with independent developer Insomniac Games that will see the studio’s new, unannounced and upcoming franchise launch on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

This new title will mark the first time an Insomniac game sees a multiplatform release in the developer’s 16 years of operation, which has been predominantly PlayStation-focussed for much of its history.

This February at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, videogame industry legend Mark Cerny will be formally inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame, joining the likes of luminaries such as Shigeru Miyamoto, John Carmack, Will Wright and Sid Meier.

Mark Cerny has made major contributions to videogame technologies and numerous titles throughout the years, some of which you may not even realise he had a hand in, including Marble Madness way back in 1984, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 1992, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Heart of Darkness, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, Uncharted, MotorStorm, Heavenly Sword, inFamous and Killzone 2, with many more to come in the future through his consultation company, Cerny Games.

Insomniac have revealed by way of a video that the Resistance 2 patch (v1.50) will be released on the PlayStation Network today, while some pay-to-play downloadable content (DLC) is also on the offering.

The patch will add a multiplayer mode called Meltdown, as well as another difficulty setting for co-operative play, resulting in higher EXP rewards, but obviously more difficult to obtain. The patch also allows a local co-operative player to sign into PSN so that their scores will be saved.

The DLC on the other hand, the Aftermath map pack, will cost you $5.99 and adds a few smaller scale multiplayer maps. You can also buy a variety of new skins for your in-game persona for $0.99 each.

Sony has posted three alternative Resistance 2 cover images, giving fans the choice to download a new cover art for the game.

Last year Insomniac Games gave gamers the chance to vote on the cover image for the Resistance 2 collector’s edition. Now they are giving you the chance to download the other three R2 cover options that did not make the final cut but all of which are equally hot.

Head over to SCEA’s PlayStation Blog, select your favourite cover, download the high-res image and print your new cover. Voila!

And if you haven’t yet played Resistance 2, make sure you grab yourself a copy soon. We thought it was “top quality FPS action through and through” with stunning graphics, weapons and enemies. Read more of our thoughts in our review of the game.

One can never tire of saving humanity, especially when the invaders are so hideous and the crimes so heinous. Taking up the story immediately where Resistance: Fall of Man finished, you once again fill the boots of Nathan Hale. Despite the ass whipping you dealt them in London, the Chimera have pushed forward and now threaten the United States. This time around you get a wee bit of support from your new super soldier buddies called the Sentinels. Most of the time they are there for decoration, however, every now and again when things get hectic they will surprise you by killing some Chimera.

The Chimeran virus continues to rage inside Nathan Hale’s body and provides a central theme for the story. As FPS plots go, the story is fairly decent but I really do not want to give too much away and spoil your experience of it on your first run through the game.

While another highly anticipated, platform-exclusive action shooter is coming soon, not much excitement has been dedicated to the other platform-exclusive action shooter, Resistance 2!

Resistance 2’s story starts right where the original left off, after which the lead character, Hale, joins an elite group of mutant-killing specialists, ‘The Sentinels,’ as they hop around various locations in the now war-torn United States. The game also features a massive multiplayer component, allowing up to 60 (!) players on at one time.

Insomniac has announced that they have begun to take applications for the upcoming Resistance 2 multiplayer beta. Apply now to avoid disappointment/fury, because the beta is limited. Insomniac reminds prospective beta participants:

“We’ll notify you via e-mail if you are accepted into the Public Beta. Space is limited. So, if you want to get a chance to try out all the new multiplayer features in Resistance 2, such as the 8-player co-op and up to 60-player competitive multiplayer, apply now.”

Insomniac Games has announced that the “worldwide competitive online multiplayer and co-operative beta” for Resistance 2 will begin in early October.

Insomniac also revealed that Resistance fans can secure premier access to the public beta in North America by pre-ordering the game from GameStop. Qore annual subscribers will also receive premier access to the beta.

Head over to http://beta.myresistance.net/apply to apply for the open access period of the public beta. If you have purchased Qore Episode 3 you will also be given the beta during the open access period.

According to Insomniac Community Relations Manager James Stevenson, “plans for the public beta will be communicated on a more local level” for the SCEE territories, however, “will generally involve pre-order and/or application programs.”

Resistance 2 is the PS3 sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man. The game features a single player campaign, classed based online co-op campaign for up to eight players as well as 60 player online competitive multiplayer battles. The game is set shortly after the first game ends and sees Sergeant Nathan Hale again battling the Chimera invasion which has spread outside Europe to the United States.

Resistance 2 will be released on the 4th of November across North America but Europeans have yet to be given an exact date although the game will arrive on shelves in November.

The standard version of the game will cost $59.99 while the Collector’s Edition will retail at $79.99.

According to a post on SCEA’s PlayStation Blog, “SCEE did not opt to release this over there” due to “localization and costs.” However, Community Relations Manager of Insomniac James Stevenson stated “Good news is that PS3 games are region-free, so if you have to have it, its only an import away.”

The Collector’s Edition will include a copy of Resistance 2 with special edition cover artwork selected by fans of the game, a Chimeran Hybrid action figure, double-sided hard-cover art book and in-game HVAP Wraith multiplayer weapon skin.

It will also include a bonus DVD featuring a behind the scenes video, a video detailing the game’s timeline, a digital copy of issue #0 of the Resistance comic book from DC Comics subsidiary Wildstorm and a preview of the upcoming novel by William Dietz.

Resistance 2 will be available in North America on the 4th of November. An exact date has not yet been announced for Europe but the game will be released in November.

Insomniac Games also announced that the public beta for the game will begin in early October.

This trailer for Resistance 2, sequel to the great PS3 launch title, Resistance, reveals glimpses of new foes, also showing how the enemy has taken a hold of human cities in classy, city-destroying, War of the Worlds style. Maybe they read the book.

Resistance 2 is due out later this year on PS3.

Insomniac Games has released a new teaser trailer for Resistance 2. Titled ‘It Begins,’ the trailer is said to disclose hints about the story direction of Resistance 2. Resistance 2 is scheduled to be released this fall.

In a post on SCEA’s PlayStation blog, Insomniac Games confirmed that they are play-testing 60 player multiplayer and eight-player co-op daily as well as tweaking sections of the single player levels.

Insomniac Games announced that the next trailer and worldwide game play footage will debut on the 13th of June. It will debut exclusively on GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley and is a full episode covering the game. Stay tuned because more details were promised before then. The February cover of Game Informer boasts the heading ‘Resistance 2,’ confirming that a sequel for the popular PS3 launch title from Insomniac Games is in the works.

According to the cover Resistance 2 will feature sixty player battles, eight player co-op and two full campaigns. More as and when the news hit the tubes.
