Hmm… there really isn’t all that much going on in South Africa, Europe and the UK in terms of new videogame releases, is there?
Finally! I’ve been waiting a long time for a game to really burn up the Media Create charts, and this week Yakuza: Of the End has done just that.
Yakuza titles generally perform very well in Japan, but I wasn’t sure how Of the End would do over there because it features a ruined, zombie-infected city with more than a passing resemblance to a certain pleasure district in Tokyo.
There are only two new entries on this week’s Media Create software chart, which unfortunately doesn’t make for very impressive reading sales-wise.
Nintendo was the big winner this week, with five of the titles in the top ten appearing on one of their platforms. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS was the overall winner with 58 792 units sold, with the other entries on the chart trailing this respectable figure by quite a margin.
Rounding out the list of exciting new games in Capcom’s stable of upcoming releases (and on show at the recent Captivate 2011 event) is the first Resident Evil game to grace Nintendo’s 3DS, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.
In addition to a new assortment of screenshots showcasing the game’s mix of melee, ranged and explosive combat, a new trailer was released for this third-person shooter featuring a look at some of the available customisation options that allow you to make your equipment and characters your own, with peeks at the cooperative mode, too.
Also: A quick teaser for Resident Evil: Revelations is included:
By now you’ll know that Capcom is hard at work on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.
Set in the Resident Evil universe, The Mercenaries 3D will feature Mercenaries missions from Resident Evil 4 and 5, but now realised in 3D. The game will also add new modes and well known characters from the series along with co-op gameplay.
After illicit news got out last week about the next entry to the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom has gone and formally announced the existence of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the latest iteration “of horror” due for release on consoles, PCs and handheld devices later this year.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is being billed as a third-person team-based shooter, only this time set in the “dark and sinister” Resident Evil universe, and will include a reinterpretation of the events we all stumbled and shot our way through in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
One of the new games revealed at Nintendo’s press conference today in Japan was a new Resident Evil title for the Nintendo 3DS.
Capcom announced that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is currently in development for the 3DS, and promised that it “will deliver relentless action with players competing against the clock to defeat as many enemies as possible in a fixed time.”
