2012 is the year of survival horror games, no doubt about it.
The long-awaited AMY was recently released (to a bit of a tepid reception), March will see the release of no less than three Silent Hill games, and then in late November, Resident Evil 6 will hit.
Horror or survival horror? Call it what you want but when a behemoth of a monster is barrelling towards you intent on crushing your skull with its reaching tendrils, you’re going to grip the controller very tightly, irrespective of genre!
So here’s a Question of the Day for you:
Do you enjoy horror games?
So much Resident Evil goodness!
If you’ll forgive the heavy Sony plugging at the beginning of the trailer, you’ll be treated to visions of the next Resident Evil movie, Retribution, which is due for release in mid-September this year.
Watch below for crushing chase scenes, apocalyptic settings and lots of guns:
There are already six Resident Evil titles available in digital form on the PlayStation Network, and today Capcom announced that two more games in the franchise will be coming to PS3 in the foreseeable future.
It’s a regular old Resident Evil round-up here on El33tonline as new information and media has recently surfaced regarding two of Capcom’s planned high definition Resident Evil remakes, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.
One game still looks terrific, the other does not. Let’s begin:
You may have read about the next entry to the legendary Resident Evil franchise in the form of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, but have you seen the game in motion?
Doubtful.
Watch below as we catch snippets and glimpses of a city infested with zombies, and witness those self-same shambling undead getting shredded and stomped by the Umbrella Security Service.
As teaser trailers go, this one is brilliant!
After illicit news got out last week about the next entry to the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom has gone and formally announced the existence of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the latest iteration “of horror” due for release on consoles, PCs and handheld devices later this year.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is being billed as a third-person team-based shooter, only this time set in the “dark and sinister” Resident Evil universe, and will include a reinterpretation of the events we all stumbled and shot our way through in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.
In order to best celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom recently announced that high-definition versions of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica will be released as downloadable titles for Xbox 360 (via Xbox LIVE Marketplace) and PlayStation 3 (via the PlayStation Network) this ‘Autumn.’
Both Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica have been enhanced with “upgraded visuals,” and will also feature the addition of Trophies and Achievements to get you to creep through the games all over again.
This week on the El33tonline Podcast, Oliver is visited by a raucous caucus of Hadedas (the common Ibis) as Lisa and Tom talk over the noise to discuss the awesomeness of MotorStorm Apocalypse, the fantastic Mortal Kombat demo, Uncharted 3’s new villain, new videogame movies, how excellent Uncharted 2 multiplayer is, announcements regarding Ape Escape and White Knight Chronicles, as well as February NPD results for the US videogame industry.
We wrap up with release date news for an insane week of videogame launches and newly dated titles, while reminding you about El33tonline’s huge range of new competitions and this week’s El33t M33ts!

There’s no business like that movie business (i.e. ‘Show Business’), and Sony Pictures recently went and announced that a fifth Resident Evil movie is currently in production, even going as far as to announced a late 2012 release date for the film, while confirming the next entry to the franchise will also be available to watch in 3D.
Next year, Capcom will be gracing the Nintendo 3DS with no less than two Resident Evil titles, both of which will attempt to take full advantage of Nintendo’s stereo 3D handheld.
Just to remind us that these games are still on the way, Capcom has released a massive batch of new screenshots and artwork for both titles, all of which you can peep below:
1993 was the year gaming changed forever. A pre-rendered point and click adventure game called Myst was released and went on to ship millions of copies and become the best-selling game of all time. It was not until the uber-popular ‘The Sims’ franchise came along that its record was bested.
I was an impressionable 9 year old at the time, and I remember ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ while my friend demonstrated Myst to me on his PC. Here was a game world full of sights and sounds that had a fidelity I had never experienced before. The textures on the stone pillars and trees actually looked like their real-world counterparts. Was I dreaming? No, this was the revolution in gaming graphics that the CD-ROM had made possible.

ZeniMax Media (parent company of Bethesda Softworks and id Software) today announced that it has acquired Tango Gameworks, a game development studio founded and run by legendary game creator Shinji Mikami.
If you don’t know who Shinji Mikami is, then this wouldn’t be of much interest.
But if you knew that Mikami was the originator of the Resident Evil franchise, and has been heavily involved with renowned series such as Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe, as well as games such as God Hand and Vanquish, then the importance of the news increases dramatically.
Mikami said of the acquisition deal:
If you’re a fan of the Resident Evil series and in the mood for something a little lighter this afternoon, then we’ve got just the thing for you.
Watch below as the actors of the recently released Resident Evil: Afterlife act out lines from the original Resident Evil game. It’s hilarious, especially seeing Milla Jovovich say the infamous phrase: “Jill, here’s a lockpick. It might come in handy if you, “the master of unlocking”, take it with you.”
Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan have jointly announced that a new full-length CG animation feature based in the Resident Evil universe is currently being co-produced by the two companies, and will serve as the sequel to previous CG movie, Resident Evil: Degeneration.
A new trailer for this year’s Resident Evil: Afterlife movie has been released, packing quite a bit more action than the first video reveal, as well as some more hints at the backstory for this particular cinematic production.
Milla Jovovich sounds just as disinterested and sleepy as usual, but the Screen Gems ‘effects’ will be sure to take your mind off of that:
