While Red Dead Redemption now has a new set in stone release date, Mafia II doesn’t, but the publisher promises stockholders (and gamers!), that it won’t slip past October 31st this year… although we’ve heard that song before.

According to a newsletter sent out by Rockstar today, the developer’s next open-world outing into the wilderness of the Wild West, Red Dead Redemption, will release in April next year, further narrowing down the company’s previous release window for the game from ‘the first half’ of 2010.

Additionally, a new trailer for the game entitled “My Name is John Marston” will release on December 1st (Tuesday next week) to give us a new look at the free-roaming action adventure game.

If you’ll remember, Red Dead Redemption and a host of other Rockstar and Take 2 games were previously slated to release at the end of this year, but were summarily plucked from the release schedule and are now being carefully peppered throughout 2010.

Take Two LogoTake-Two recently announced plans to delay four massive games in their upcoming release schedule (all sequels) to fiscal 2010, which means we won’t be seeing Bioshock 2, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 or Red Dead Redemption until after April next year.

Bioshock 2 was previously expected to release at the end of October/beginning of November, Max Payne 3 was announced to be releasing later this year, while Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption’s release windows had previously been updated to ‘end of this year, or beginning of next year.’

Take-Two CEO Bed Feder said of the announcement:

During an investor earnings call last night, Take-Two not only announced the new set of downloadable content (DLC) heading to Grand Theft Auto IV, but also revealed updated release dates and windows for some of their biggest upcoming games, including Bioshock 2, Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption.

First, the bad news – Mafia II and Red Dead Redemption have been delayed until sometime between November 1st and May 31st next year… not exactly the release windows we were hoping for, but hopefully they aren’t delayed any further than that.

The recently released debut trailer for Rockstar’s next entry to the western-inspired Red Dead franchise, Red Dead Redemption, reveals just how tough it was to survive out in the western frontier – if the harsh environment didn’t get you, a dastardly outlaw surely would.

If the production values and voice acting for the entire game reaches the bar set by this trailer, we’re going to have a classic on our hands, as Rockstar use their accumulated skills from the Grand Theft Auto series to create what could be an excellent experience.

Rockstar Games has announced that the sequel to their well-received Wild West game, Red Dead Revolver, is heading to the Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year.

Entitled Red Dead Redemption, the game is also set in the great Wild West, at a time when the lawlessness of the world is starting to subside, due to the expanding influence of organised government and the rise of the Industrial Age. Founder of Rockstar Games, Sam Houser said of the game:

“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption. The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing.

“We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

Following the adventures of one John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on one last great adventure across an open-world Wild West, filled with what you’d expect to find there – frontier towns, rolling prairies (and the associated wildlife) as well as the ubiquitous (and dangerous) mountain passes, all powered by the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), the same engine behind the scenes of GTA IV.

Players will need to keep their wits about them as they battle merciless outlaws and struggle against the environment’s harsh elements, all while meeting interesting and unique characters along the way.

Red Dead Redemption has a release window of Fall this year. Check out some more screenshots from the game below:
