It’s just been confirmed that the developer behind racing games Pure and Split/Second, Black Rock Studio, is set to close its doors, following staff reductions at owner Disney Interactive Studios earlier this year.
The news arrives as a result of Black Rock Studio’s next game failing to get the green light for production. An official statement from Disney read:
This week on Xbox LIVE Games on Demand, the excellent but criminally overlooked off-road quad-bike racing game Pure is up and available for purchase and download, while Resident Evil 5 (which was added last week for US Xbox LIVE users) is this week added for users in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
For a good overview, a bunch of good classic trailers and El33tonline’s review of Resident Evil 5, all tuned to get you in the mood to consider buying it through Games on Demand, you can have a look at last week’s coverage of the digital title.

The demo for Disney’s action sports game Pure will be available worldwide for download on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network this Thursday.
Players will be able to test drive one of Pure’s 35 tracks in the demo, the Mount Garda track in Italy. The demo includes a short tutorial on a qualifying track to teach players the game controls. The Mount Grada is a three-lap race that will see racers going up against 15 AI competitors.
Pure is an extreme sports and off-road quad racing game that sees players building their vehicle from the ground up before taking on 15 competitors in single player or online multiplayer modes in seven real-world locations. Pull off tricks to add to your boost bar, enabling faster speeds. The game includes various modes including Race, Freestyle, Sprint and Freeride (online-only mode that allows free-roaming and experimenting during a set time limit).
Developed by Black Rock Studio (formerly Climax Racing of Moto GP and ATV Offroad Fury fame), Pure is scheduled to be released on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on the 25th of September.
