Holy cow! Did you know about this? Why didn’t anyone say anything?! The Excellent Game Psychonauts (just ‘Psychonauts’ to its friends) is now available on the Mac!
Not only that, but Double Fine’s masterful action platform game has received an update for the Steam version of the game, while a new “companion iOS app” is now available via the App Store. What’s included in the Steam update? A “slightly modified” version of the infamous Meat Circus level, amongst others.
This is a great day, everybody.
Double Fine Productions is ten years old today, July 27th 2010!
Ten years ago today, Tim Schafer and some like-minded individuals thought it would be a good idea to start an independent videogame development company, after years of working at LucasArts making classic titles such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango.
What fools.
In a recent interview with Eurogamer, and while talking on a range of topics, head of Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts, Brütal Legend) Tim Schafer let loose a spate of vitriol when the topic of Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick came up.
Calling Kotick a ‘pr*ck’ and a ‘d**k,’ Schafer went on to say that Kotick’s attitude towards games, and game developers, isn’t good for the industry, noting that the Activision boss could happily move into another industry that “makes more money. Ball bearings… Something that suits his passions more. Weapons manufacturing?”
Here are a few select Schafer quotes from the Eurogamer interview:
Here’s a no-brainer for you: What do you do with $2 burning a hole in your pocket?
OK, well in the wake of the crisis in Haiti, it’s not such a no-brainer, but the thing is, The Excellent Game Psychonauts is now on sale through the Steam digital distribution service for a paltry, measly, insignificant $2!
With hours upon hours of double-fine Double Fine entertainment, characters and dialogue written by Tim Schafer (Brutal Legend, Grim Fandango) and Erik Wolpaw (who went on to work at Valve and write for Portal and Team Fortress 2) and wonderful, creative environments and settings, Psychonauts is one game you shouldn’t miss. Seriously.
So head on over here and get with the paying and downloading.
Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions has confirmed that they are not working on a new Psychonauts game. This after a mysterious ‘Coming Soon’ poster was stuck over the Psychonauts’ logo on the Projects section of the website leading to rumours of a sequel or a Wii port.
Schafer confirmed with Kotaku that “There’s no new Psychonauts game in the works right now, but I’m glad some people got excited by the idea. I know I got excited.” He also commented to GameSpot “I wish! No, we are just putting up a new page for the old (Excellent) game. Sheesh. How many games do these people think we can do at once?”
Double Fine are currently working on Brutal Legend.
So that’s it then, fun’s over, back to work everyone.
If you head over to the Double Fine website, you will notice a Psychonauts picture under the Projects section. Could this mean a new Psychonauts project is in the wings? I wonder if it is Pyschonauts 2 or simply a port to the Wii.
