We all love Portal 2. And we all love Skyrim too (see what I did there?). Apparently these games love each other as well as Bethesda and Valve have teamed up to create a mod for Skyrim that includes a little character from Portal 2.
The Academy of Arts and Sciences recently announced its full list of nominations for this year’s Interactive Achievement Awards, with categories including ‘Game of the Year,’ ‘Outstanding Achievement in Story,’ ‘Downloadable Game of the Year’ and many more.
Unsurprisingly, Uncharted 3 and Naughty Dog lead the nominations list with a total of twelve nods across the categories, followed by Portal 2 with ten and LA Noire with nine.
The 15th annual Interactive Achievement Awards will be held during the DICE Summit this year in Las Vegas, on February 9th, and here are the hopefuls:
You may not believe it, but the annual Spike Video Game Awards isn’t actually all about revealing exciting new games, nor is it centred on providing looks at upcoming titles.
No, the Spike Video Game Awards are about awards! Well, mostly anyway.
The latest Media Create figures are up, and once again Sony and Nintendo’s respective handhelds are the platform of choice for Japanese gamers.
Akiba’s Trip for PSP scores big this week with 58 150 units sold. From what I can tell it’s a mildly titillating vampire game set in Tokyo with action elements similar to the Yakuza titles.
Dead or Alive: Dimensions provides some much needed impetus for 3DS software sales, taking the number two spot in its debut week on the charts. I’m wondering if Koei Tecmo couldn’t have made more profit if they had developed the game for PSP, but perhaps Nintendo offered them a tidy sum to grace the 3DS with their popular fighting franchise.
A few days ago news emerged of an amazing real life replica of the cute and deadly AI-imbued turrets from Valve’s original Portal, created by cinematic animator and apparent prop master Ryan Palser.
The project to create such a replica was meticulous indeed, and Palser has documented the entire process, from start to finish, on his profile page at Flickr with images and text descriptions of every step.
Apparently, only two of these Portal Turret replicas have been made, and Epic Games’ Creative Director Cliff Bleszinski put in an order for one of them…
… and he very recently received it in the mail.
From a Twitter post by Bleszinski:
Oooooooooh, Friday the Thirteenth is upon us… and now it’s nearly over to let us enjoy our weekend without fear of something absolutely horrific happening.
After browsing over this week’s news and reviews (with more reviews to come shortly), you can discover what members of El33tonline will be getting up to this weekend:
Sales tracking and research firm The NPD Group has released this month’s report on the state of the videogame industry in the US, recording $961.2 million in sales across hardware, software and accessories segments of the market in April 2011 – up from $802.4 million in April of 2010, representing a 20% increase.
These results helped the US videogame industry to a 2% year-to-date lead over 2010’s results.
It’s managed to claim the top spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing twice before, and now Zumba Fitness (sales down 3%)has been able to hit the top of the chart for a third time, ousting Portal 2 (sales down 43%) from the No. 1 position.
Zumba Fitness moved up from No. 3 last week to appear at No. 1, while Portal 2 had to step down one place to make space for the new chart-topper. Mortal Kombat (sales down 52%) also moved down one place, charting at No. 3 this week.
It is not often that I get to play a game from start to end more than once. It is therefore even more unlikely that I get to do that in a matter of a few short days. But in the case of Portal 2 I did just that. I even squeezed in a full play through of the original just for kicks. Needless to say, Portal 2 is worth all the time and effort spent on it!

For the second week in a row, Valve Software’s Portal 2 has claimed the top position on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing, proving that ‘testing’ can actually be quite popular if put in the right context.
This despite a 51% drop in sales compared to the week previous!
Following on from the incredible launch of Portal 2 only two weeks ago, Valve Software has announced that the first set of downloadable content for everybody’s favourite portal-imbued first-person puzzle game is currently in development, and will add new content and features this ‘Summer’ – for free!
It’s with very little surprise in our collective online voices that we tell you Valve’s Portal 2 has managed to claim the No. 1 spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing for the past week, becoming the best-selling title in the region across all platforms during its first few days on sale.
The weekend has arrived one day early and will thankfully stick around for one day longer than usual, making for a welcome four-day respite from the normal rigours and challenges of everyday life.
It’s the rigours and challenges of a handful of videogames that we have to worry about now!
What can you busy yourself with this weekend if you find a bit of extra time? Why, you could enter El33tonline’s competitions and read over a bounty of game reviews and news!
What are we going to be busy with over the next few days? Let’s find out:
In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Valve Software’s Doug Lombardi has revealed some enticing new details on the special features we can expect from the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2, including full support for functionality found in Steam.
Steam is of course Valve’s digital distribution service through which the company sells games and delivers new content and patches to existing games
It’s also a network used for online game play, Steam achievements, online chat, social connections, online game saves and the storing of game preferences for use over multiple devices.
For the past few weeks leading up to the release of Portal 2, ol’ Cave Johnson over at Aperture Science labs has been schilling all kinds of new technologies to the company’s investors, trying to get them to pay up for new research and products to use for testing, and to push out to the public.
What’s the latest invention seeking investor cash? Something called ‘Long Fall Boots.’
