The PS Vita isn’t always the most user-friendly device and can be confusing to get to grips with if you’re accustomed to using consoles like the PS3 and Xbox 360. Sony really did everything in its power to prevent piracy on the Vita (an issue which severely impacted on the PSP’s fortunes) and this is very evident in the way that certain interface elements on the Vita come across as counter-intuitive.

Super Monkey Ball Small

The Monkey Ball franchise has enjoyed enormous success since it first appeared in Japanese arcades in 2000. During the last decade Sega has brought it to multiple consoles and handheld devices, and established the series as one of the most iconic platformers of recent times.

That trend continues in the form of Super Monkey Ball for PS Vita, which Sega intends to release early next year (possibly as a launch title in the West). The PSV version will see the return of the popular mini-game Monkey Target along with some new challenges which Sega has yet to detail.

One of the features I’d love to see added to PlayStation Vita’s already-impressive arsenal is the ability to play PlayStation 3 games on the device via Remote Play.

Imagine a scenario in the near future where your annoying little sister wants to watch an episode of Hannah Montana and you want nothing more than to chill in front of the TV playing Uncharted 3. After much remonstration in front of mom, your sister is granted her wish thanks to her being a more effective manipulator than you.

If I had my way, and Sony was willing to oblige, this type of situation wouldn’t prevent you from getting your fix of Uncharted. Simply register your Vita with your PS3 and enable Remote Play, and you can stream the video and audio of Uncharted 3 to your Vita over WiFi without having to even physically turn your PS3 on.

The highlight of E3 for me personally was learning more about the PlayStation Vita and seeing some of the launch games in action. We already knew it was going to be a remarkable system packed with tons of exciting tech, but to hear that the WiFi-only version would be retailing for the same price as a 3DS ($249) was simply unbelievable.

Konami has today unleashed a Silent Hill news deluge to coincide with its showing of Silent Hill Downpour at E3 2011 this week.

Thanks to that showing, we’ve managed to collect together gameplay videos and brand new screenshots for the horror-filled third-person action game, but more than that we’ve received word that Konami intends to release something called ‘The Silent Hill HD Collection,’ as well as ‘Silent Hill: Book of Memories’ for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld.

Have we just discovered the real name for Sony’s next handheld, the NGP? According to a swirl of reports doing the rounds, the word is ‘yes.’

One week ahead of E3 2011, the official, final name of the NGP could well be the ‘PlayStation Vita,’ or ‘PS Vita,’ which was allegedly the device’s original codename.
