It was a bit of a slow time for videogame news this week, but we still managed to capture batches of exciting new announcements, pore over fantastic screenshots, clap eyes on jaw-dropping trailers and videos, discover new release dates, and generally absorb a bombardment of interesting morsels of game-related information!

Not only all of that, but El33tonline put up another of its weekly podcasts, at least one review, a brand new editorial and a shiny competition!

We’ve rounded up the best videogame news and media from the past week, and you can see it all below:

El33tonline at the PlayStation Experience!

During the first week of February, El33tonline Editor-in-Chief Lisa attended the PlayStation Experience event in London to get extensive eyes- and hands-on time with exceptionally exciting PlayStation 3-exclusive games including Resistance 3, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Journey, Uncharted 3 and more.

Along the way, Lisa stopped to catch a glimpse of a Dead Space 2 advert on the side of a double-decker bus… but that’s beside the point. The point is that Lisa has written up a fantastic bunch of impressions on these titles. Have you read them? It would do your gaming heart good to do so, because they’re awesome! (I didn’t write them, so I can say that.)

Here’s a handy list of Lisa’s PlayStation Experience coverage:

Lisa also gave us a detailed report on her experience at the PlayStation Experience in a previous El33tonline Podcast - you can hear that particular episode over here.

Whoa! This week no less than three official game announcements were made, the development of at least two major game franchises was cancelled, a release date for a highly anticipated PlayStation Network game was revealed, and we posted up a collection of excellent PlayStation 3-exclusive previews! If we do say so ourselves!

And we got the usual assortment of jaw-dropping screenshots and trailers?!

What an exciting week for games!

In case you missed out on any of the biggest videogame news and media from the past week, we’ve rounded up the best of it for your leisurely perusal:

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One was one of the titles that really brought a smile to my face at Sony’s PlayStation Experience, held last week in London. How can you not have fun when you’re using the Vacuum 4000 to suck Captain Qwark up before boosting him to the next platform, throwing wrenches when you run out of ammo, running around madly to collect bolts and facing such interesting creatures the likes of which you’ve never seen before such as electrified zombie jellyfish.

Insomniac Games was on-hand to demonstrate new levels and content, as well as give us the world exclusive hands-on of the upcoming title. And rest assured it was well worth braving the cold chill of the Tramshed basement to enjoy some co-op (and competitive!) platforming fun, Ratchet & Clank style!

One phrase that you’ll hear cropping up often if you’ve been following the development of MotorStorm: Apocalypse at all is its classification as a “brutal off-road racer.” After just one race you’ll realise that they weren’t kidding, its more brutal than any other previous MotorStorm title I’ve played, and the level of unpredictability that has been included in this latest instalment add to this brutality, combining it with a sense of out-of-control racing that’s yet to be rivalled in the racing genre.

If you’ve ever played a MotorStorm game before, you’ll know that this is no ordinary racer. If you’re expecting a polite race around the track on a Sunday afternoon you’ve definitely come to the wrong place. Instead you’ll get an adrenaline pumping race, filled with thrills and spills as other racers try their utmost to ram you off the track. The racing is fast, the cars are faster and you better up your game if you want to stay alive, let alone win!

In the wake of the El33tonline-attended PlayStation Experience event in London last week, new information has emerged regarding future themed content coming soon to DC Universe Online, while it was also revealed that new servers will soon be added to support players.

Since modern-day treasure hunter Nathan Drake debuted on the PlayStation 3 back in 2007, many of us have grown rather fond of this everyman hero with the now famous half-tuck shirt and witty banter. In addition to being the lead role in the very polished, adventure-filled Uncharted series, he represented a new beginning for adventure games, a bar that developer Naughty Dog set very high in terms of storyline, graphics and cinematics, one that some may argue injected new life and inspiration into the videogame industry.

Fast forward a few years and millions of people around the world have enjoyed playing Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. And we’re all now eagerly awaiting the release of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception on the 1st of November 2011. Luckily for us Naughty Dog are happy to help us pass the time by keeping us enthralled with captivating trailers and detailed screenshots.

Headphones On this week’s El33tonline Podcast, Lisa makes it back from London in one piece to tell Pete, Tom and I about the experience of experiencing the PlayStation Experience event, where our fearless Editor-in-Chief got eyes- and hands-on with Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Killzone 3, Journey, inFamous 2, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One and more!

We also talk about some videogame news from this past week (including Dark Souls and release date information), as well as our experiences with LittleBigPlanet 2, Dead Space 2 and the Killzone 3 multiplayer beta.

(PS. While you download the podcast, be sure to get a head-start by reading over Lisa’s previews of Journey and Resistance 3!)

Since Resistance 3 was first officially revealed at gamescom 2010 with a live action trailer, Insomniac Games has been feeding us a few morsels of information about their next first-person shooter every now and again: a batch of new screenshots to pore over, a trailer to watch again and again, maybe a piece of concept art or two, but nothing to really sink our teeth into…until last week that is.

El33tonline caught up with Jon Paquette and Ryan Schneider of Insomniac Games to talk a little about Resistance 3 and get some much anticipated hands-on time with the game, a world exclusive since it marked the first time anyone outside of Insomniac had played the game!

thatgamecompany is a developer looking to set themselves apart from all the other developers out there by creating unique gameplay experiences for players to enjoy. So far they’re doing a good job too, with two successful PlayStation Network titles, flOw and flower, already under their belts.

Now they’re hard at work on their third PlayStation Network title, Journey, the third project in a three game deal with Sony. El33tonline caught up with Jenova Chen, co-founder and Creative Director of thatgamecompany, and the game’s Producer Robin Hunicke at the PlayStation Experience event held in London last week to get a glimpse into Journey.

This week saw a constant stream of interesting and/or exciting videogame news and announcements, and while there wasn’t any single massive reveal as in previous weeks like with the 3DS and NGP/PSP 2, a lack of megaton news was more than made up for with information coming from the PlayStation Experience in London, new details on Dark Souls, release date data, the official reveal of Battlefield 3, and the usual deluge of awesome trailers and screenshots.

El33tonline has rounded up the best of this week’s videogame news, which you can flip through at your leisure:

New performance information has emerged from the recently held PlayStation Experience event in London regarding Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Killzone 3, and if what the developer says can be believed, Killzone 3 is going to be a graphical monster!

… hmm? Oh, I didn’t realise you were there - I was just looking over these new screenshots for Journey that were released during the PlayStation Experience event in London.

You can get lost in these images, you see. If you look at one of them for long enough, intricate stories of ancient civilisations bubble to the surface, and you’re left wondering about what happened to this sparse, beautiful land.
