PlayStation fans have a great reason to be glued to their PC screens at 3pm GMT today. Todd Papy, director of God of War: Ascension, will be presenting this PS3 exclusive live on the PlayStation Blog with what will surely be our first glimpse of gameplay footage. The time of the livestream was recently confirmed via a tweet by the EU PS Blog.
PlayStation Plus subscribers with US PSN accounts can look forward to another round of exclusive content from next Tuesday, April 3rd. Next month’s offering is particularly generous, with freebies including the recently released side-scroller Shank 2, last year’s high-octane racer Shift 2: Unleashed and the PSone Classic Silent Hill.
Resistance: Burning Skies for PS Vita may still be two months away but we’ll be able to get a glimpse of some elements from the game as early as tomorrow, March 27th!
A list of the best-selling PSN titles for February (US only) was recently posted on the PlayStation Blog and makes for fascinating viewing if you’re at all interested in what games and DLC received the most attention.
The highlight of this year’s Game Developers Conference was arguably Quantic Dream’s ‘Kara’ tech demo which showcased the Heavy Rain developer’s new graphics engine running in real time on PS3. While the demo was very impressive from a graphical standpoint, the most significant effect of it was making us momentarily forget about its technical aspects and focus instead on the moving story of a sentient android fighting for its life.
Gravity Rush has received rave reviews since its Japanese debut last month so PS Vita owners are understandably hyped for its worldwide release in June. This open-world action-adventure stars a young female protagonist called Kat and features a unique art style and gravity-shifting gameplay mechanics that make great use of the Vita’s motion control functionality.
Those of you with US PSN accounts can look forward to receiving some great discounts over the next three weeks as part of the PlayStation Network’s annual ‘Spring Fever’ promotion. Call of Duty is the first franchise to be featured, with Final Fantasy and Tom Clancy to follow over the next few weeks.
Last week we posted an article listing all the nominees for this year’s PSN Gamers Choice Awards and described how you could get involved in the voting process.
If you head on over to the US PlayStation Store later today you’ll be able to cast your vote in the PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards. This year there are ten categories in total and the winning game from each will go on sale for one week beginning March 6th. These titles will be discounted by 30% for regular PSN users and 50% for PlayStation Plus members.
If you’re a new PS Vita owner then you’ll undoubtedly have had a ‘how do I do that?’ moment during the past week. The Vita’s current firmware is fairly uncomplicated at this stage and the number of options under ‘Settings’ is less than on the PS3 and PSP. That said, there are a few basic Vita tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your new purchase from the get-go.
Our fellow gamers in North America can get their fortunate hands on a PS Vita one week before launch (i.e. February 15th) if they pre-order the First Edition Bundle for $349.99 from selected retailers.
