There have been plenty of murmurings about PlayStation Suite over the past few months but we’ve yet to experience any tangible benefits from Sony’s answer to Apple’s phenomenally popular App Store. PlayStation Suite is particularly important for the PS Vita’s future, as it will allow for a flood of games and apps onto the system once a sufficient number of indies have embraced the development platform.
The new ‘timeline’ design and layout in Facebook may have been resisted for some time, but now that it’s officially rolled over and we’ve now been forced to use it, it’s actually pretty neat. Being able to put up your own large custom banner image at the top of your personal or business page is one of the nicer additions and can be used for lots of great purposes.
Like teasing the next blockbuster videogame.
One of the highlights of my week during the past couple of months has been watching season 3 of the PlayStation Network reality show The Tester. A new episode is released with the US PlayStation Store update every Tuesday and you can either download it directly from the Store or watch it on YouTube.
There’s been scarce publicity for the PlayStation Move title Sorcery since it was unveiled at E3 last year. The good news is that development on the project is in full swing and the game will appear in playable form at Sony’s Holiday Showcase in New York City next month.
PS Vita is still a few months away for those of us outside Japan but that doesn’t mean we can’t drool over it from afar in the meantime.
Sony Computer Entertainment has just launched a new PS Vita themed series on the PlayStation YouTube channel which promises to provide plenty of tantalising glimpses at the console and upcoming PSV titles while we wait for February 22nd to roll by.
If you consider yourself something of a PlayStation fan, or even if you have only a very casual fondness for some of the brand’s more popular games, then you won’t want to miss this brand new trailer!
Featuring characters such as God of War’s Kratos, Call of Duty’s Ghost, Cole from inFamous, and even a surprise appearance by a certain little Sack character (and many more awesome cameos), this trailer is a love letter to PlayStation fans everywhere.
See if you can spot all of the characters included in the exceptionally well produced trailer below - don’t miss this!
We’ve known for a while that PS Vita comes equipped with some seriously impressive and advanced augmented reality (AR) functionality. This week Sony released a couple of new trailers which shed light on two types of AR which PS Vita will support - Markerless AR and Wide-Area AR (WAAR).
Japan is the place to be this December when the PlayStation Vita makes its worldwide debut there on the 17th. Those lucky ladies and gentlemen with a bit of cash to spare after buying the feature-laden handheld and a game or two from the 26 titles on offer will probably be making a beeline for the accessories shelf, which will offer all sorts of official Sony extras for their precious new acquisition.
The PSP has undergone many hardware revisions and cosmetic changes since it launched in 2005. The best version so far has to be the PSP-3000 which has a built-in microphone and a radically improved screen compared to previous models. The PSPgo has a neat, compact form factor but it can’t play UMDs and the screen is 0.5 inches smaller (diagonally) than other PSP models.
At gamescom last week Sony announced a new model of PSP - the E1000. Priced at just €100, it will go on sale across PAL territories this November. The budget model lacks certain features which some gamers might miss - Wi-Fi, stereo speakers and a built-in microphone. The new model is also a bit bulkier than the PSP-3000 - weighing 223g as opposed to the 3000’s 189g.
Anyone who’s used Xbox Live extensively will be able to tell you how often cross-game voice chat comes in handy. Let’s say you and three of your friends are online playing different games and you want to find out who is keen for some FIFA 11 multiplayer action. On Xbox Live you can quickly form a party and talk freely with its members, without having to quit your game or even halt your progress through it.

This week’s U.S. Playstation Store update is a bit more exciting than the previous ones have been. Besides the usual presence of price tweaks, game videos, themes and add-on content, there are a few choice morsels worth mentioning.
To begin with you’ll probably want to check out the two demos on offer. Both of them are for hotly anticipated titles, namely Madden NFL 12 and Driver: San Francisco. They’ll chew up around 1.5 GB of your bandwidth per download, but you should be able to glean countless hours of entertainment from these two action-packed tasters.
It’s been revealed officially, you see.
At a press conference in Barcelona, Spain yesterday, mobile phone conglomerate Sony Ericsson officially announced and revealed the Xperia PLAY (aka the PlayStation Phone), “the world’s first PlayStation certified smartphone” and the latest device in the company’s range of Xperia Android-based smartphones.
Here’s what’s promised with Xperia PLAY, a high-powered smartphone that doubles as a mobile gaming device:

Sony has announced plans to temporarily rename its Sony Computer Entertainment division (SCE) to Sony Computer Entertainment Platform (SNEP), which will incorporate the company’s networked devices, computers and videogame operations under one unit, before reorganising these operations back into separate divisions.
