PixelJunk Eden LogoPixelJunk Eden Encore will be available on the PlayStation Network this Thursday, the 16th of April. The expansion pack for Eden will cost $5.99.

According to Dylan Cuthbert, President and Executive Producer of Q-Games, Encore will “have the best of everything from the original game, with great pacing, well-designed levels and heaps of new ideas.” Cuthbert also revealed that the game features an Easter Egg at the end of the game which is that players will get a very special mode once you get all the Spectra in the expansion.

Encore is DLC so you will need to have the original game to enjoy the expansion. However, Cuthbert promised that there is about “15 hours worth of gameplay,” with “some very cool new gameplay concepts, it’s not just extra levels” and that there is “a whole set of new trophies for the Encore gardens.”

Although it might not be PixelJunk 4 as earlier reports suggested, PixelJunk fans will no doubt settle for Eden Encore, an expansion for PixelJunk Eden, the third game in the popular series.

PixelJunk Eden LogoQ-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert has confirmed that he will not be demonstrating a new PixelJunk PSN game at next week’s GDC. He will, however, be showing Eden Encore.

Here’s an excerpt from Cuthbert’s twitter feed, “everyone seems to think we are showing PixelJunk 1-4 next week at GDC…but it ain’t true…Eden Encore will be there in its full glory tho.”

If you haven’t yet been entranced by the atmospheric platformer with its soothing music and intriguing grimps, then make sure you download Eden from the PlayStation Store today.

To celebrate the release of PixelJunk Eden on the PlayStation Network, here’s some cool footage of the game, showing off the awesome visuals and some actual game play mechanics.

In PixelJunk Eden, you play as a Grimp (because you ‘grip’ and ‘jump’, get it?) that has to spread pollen from one flower to the next in order to grow plants and continue on your adventure.

It’s described as an ‘organic platformer,’ so that will have to do.

PixelJunk Eden gives players control of a ‘Grimp,’ a meeting of the words ‘Grip’ and ‘Jump,’ the two main actions in the game. You’ll need to smash into enemies who release pollen, which is used to grow and change plants, allowing you to swing through the environment and continue on your journey.

Coming to Playstation Network this year, PixelJunk Eden is one to look out for.

Q Games has taken the wraps off two more PixelJunk games. Dylan Cuthbert introduced PixelJunk fans to PixelJunk Eden and PixelJunk Dungeons at GDC 2008.

Here is a video of PixelJunk Eden. More news when it hits the wires.

[UPDATE] You can also head over to the PixelJunk website and click on the plant in the bottom left corner to see the new video for PixelJunk Eden. It is still deemed to be a ‘Work in Progress’ but finishes with the words ‘Coming Soon.’
