In the past I’ve used many words and terms to describe Bulletstorm: ‘Raucous.’ ‘Insane.’ ‘Over-the-top.’ ‘Explosive.’ ‘Intense.’ All of these are accurate when discussing any single aspect of People Can Fly’s latest first-person shooter, from second-to-second enemy battles and the range of weaponry, to the available set of combat abilities, enormous set-piece action and far-reaching sense of adventure.
I’ve also used another term to describe Bulletstorm: ‘Dude-bro.’ In most social circles, this term is somewhat derisive and refers to stereotypical juvenile behaviour on the part of males aged anywhere from their early teens to late twenties – gratuitous blue language and jokes referring to human genitalia and defecation are usually the order of the day for members of the ‘dude-bro’ social club.
Is Bulletstorm ‘dude-bro’ in its presentation? Yes. Will this affect your enjoyment of the game, either negatively or positively? Yes. Can the ‘dude-bro’-ness of Bulletstorm be overlooked for long enough to get through the eight hour singleplayer campaign, and engage in ‘intense,’ ‘over-the-top’ and ‘explosive’ set-piece action to see this game unfurl like a mighty, extremely rude flower?
That depends on you. Let’s find out.

[Update] Added news of Bulletstorm’s first DLC and an eh-x-plosive launch trailer for the game below - don’t miss it! [End of Update]
Bulletstorm is about to launch itself all over North America today, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC!
This raucously insane first-person shooter will of course become available later this week in Europe, the UK and South Africa, but it’s the Americans that will first need to get prepared for People Can Fly, Epic and EA’s supremely over-the-top action game!
The release of People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm is very near, and when this insanely action-crammed first-person shooter hits in two week’s time it’s going to be tough to think about it without images of crimson viscera splattering all over your screen.
So while we’re still a little ways away from launch, why not take a moment to enjoy a few chilled stills taken from the game to remember that Bulletstorm isn’t only about making a half-dozen enemies explode in the air while kicking, sliding and destroying a half-dozen other brutal foes, all in one action sequence.
But yeah… that’s what it’s really about:
Epic and People Can Fly’s way over-the-top first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, has arrived on Xbox LIVE Marketplace in the form of a promised demo, but the pair of developers haven’t just left us to decide on our own whether or not it’s worth our time as we have a new trailer to showcase just what’s possible in the world of Bulletstorm.
String together a series of signature Kill Shots to earn points, leash enemies into the air and destroy them at your leisure, slide and kick foes into submission, hammer grunts to the floor and boot them off of a building… and much more!
If any title in 2011 can claim gameplay that’s ‘fast and furious,’ it’s Bulletstorm! Watch the trailer now:
Even though People Can Fly’s explosive first-person shooter is only due for release at the end of February, we’ll all be able to get a good taste of the over-the-top action when a demo for Bulletstorm releases on the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE Marketplace in the middle of next week!
So, in 2007 and just before the release of Halo 3, Microsoft’s advertising campaign was running in overdrive to spread the word that the countdown sequence to ‘the second coming’ in the world of videogames had begun, letting everyone know that this mighty title was imminent.
As part of that campaign (entitled ‘Believe’), Microsoft and its ad agency released a diorama-based commercial showing a frozen moment in time on a supposed battlefield in which protagonist Master Chief himself was a part of. The trailer was epic and set to hauntingly beautiful music – just the thing to get gamers in the mood for Halo 3.
Now, with the release of Epic and People Can Fly’s Bulletstorm late next month, a specially themed parody of that ‘famous’ Halo 3 trailer has been unleashed. Depending on your tastes, it may invoke a guffaw or two.
Oh, it also has brand new in-game footage from Bulletstorm right near the end, so watch out for that:
Can’t get enough of People Can Fly’s insanely action-packed first-person shooter, Bulletstorm?
Well, Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski, one of the producers on Bulletstorm, recently went through a gauntlet of interviews to let gamers know more about the multiplayer portion of the game (get further details and in-game footage of that over here), and he doesn’t disappoint!
You can watch two interviews with Bleszinski below as he tries (and succeeds) to convince us about the merits of Bulletstorm’s insane gameplay, while shouting over the noise of a party behind him:
Yesterday! We got to watch a video and sneak our first glimpses at two of the multiplayer modes included in People Can Fly’s off-the-charts insane first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, in the form of the enemy wave-based ‘Anarchy,’ and the online leaderboard-based ‘Echo.’
Today! Publisher EA has released a batch of screenshots showcasing action from multiplayer Anarchy, as well as the singleplayer portion of Bulletstorm.
Now! Do you understand that header? Both kinds of… ‘player’?
… Just go and look at the new screenshots:
As we are by now very well aware, Bulletstorm features a blockbuster singleplayer experience filled to the brim with over-the-top action and second-to-second set-pieces, but what about multiplayer?
That crazy-insane first-person shooter from development house People Can Fly will indeed feature a few multiplayer modes, two of which have been shown off recently by Adrian Chmielarz, the creative director at the studio currently stewarding development of the game.
In the video below, let Chmielarz walk you through the Anarchy (a wave-based cooperative enemy hunt) and Echo (a points-based leaderboard mode) multiplayer modes of Bulletstorm, complete with extensive in-game footage:
Bulletstorm, as far as we can tell, is shaping up to be a brilliant, way over-the-top first-person shooter, and when you consider the two primary creative forces working on the game are People Can Fly (Painkiller) and Epic Games (Gears of War), you can not only understand where the title’s epic action comes from, but you can also expect an extraordinarily exciting and fun thrill ride!
Personally though, I’m not too much of a fan of the vocal utterances spouted out by the game’s protagonist, Grayson Hunt, as he shoots, destroys, whips and pummels his enemies – a few of his one-liners veer a few steps too far into unnecessarily crude territory. I think.
The North American box art for People Can Fly’s first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, has been released and it’s guaranteed that you’ll enjoy it’s brightly coloured ‘in your face’ attitude.
People Can Fly’s devastating first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, is shaping up to be an incredible action romp, filled with satisfying second-to-second gameplay decisions to make that results in an extremely fast-paced, addictive shooting experience. My hands-on time with the game at gamescom 2010 confirmed all of that, and more!
And talk about a looker!
The first thing that you’ll notice when you start playing Bulletstorm is how solid the game feels – developer People Can Fly has clearly taken its first-person shooter expertise learned during the creation of Painkiller and honed certain gameplay elements to near-perfection.
In this way, the team has distilled down the fundamentals of an explosive and powerful action game in order to deliver one of the most finely tuned and satisfyingly fun first-person games I’ve every played.
You’ve seen this segment of gameplay from Bulletstorm before, I’m afraid, but what you haven’t… uh, experienced before are the ‘dulcet’ tones of Epic Games creative director Cliff Bleszinski narrating the gameplay, explaining the various abilities, graphical touches and unique ‘Kill With Skill’ techniques.
You can watch (and listen to) that below, but first, what else is going on in the world of Bulletstorm?
[Update] Added a gob-smacking campaign gameplay video from Bulletstorm, captured during EA’s press conference at E3. Watch below. [End of Update]
People Can Fly, Epic and EA’s insanely awesome, over-the-top first-person shooter, Bulletstorm, has been given a late February 2011 release date.
