I have another rule for playing games: if you have fond memories of a specific game from your past, then do not revisit said game as it will probably suck if you play it again. This proved true for me when I popped Operation Flashpoint in my PC in anticipation for the 3rd game in the series, Red River. I used to love that game! The accurate bullet physics, the great big landscapes, the versatility in the vehicle selection. Sure the controls were kind of bad, but it was fun… right?

Nostalgia should be left alone, people!

Well, now that I’ve tarnished that perfect memory, let’s move on to Red River with a short introduction: technically it is only the second game in the series from the current developer, but the third in the series from the publisher. The focus of the game is realism. You are a soldier in an army where there are no real heroes, and where one bullet can kill. You do not magically appear at a destination, you have to travel across an open expanse to get there, either by foot or by vehicle. Not a lot has changed since the old days.

Up until now Codemasters has been content to tell us all about the singleplayer aspect of the publisher’s Operation Flashpoint: Red River, focussing on the story, setting and authentic gameplay of this realistic first-person military shooter, but with the release of a new trailer for the game we’re finally able to clap eyes on the 4-player cooperative element.

Codemasters and South African videogame distributor Megarom today announced that the pair have partnered up for a multi-title distribution deal.

Codemasters has today slapped a release date on the publisher’s next military-themed first-person shooter, Operation Flashpoint: Red River, and fans of the realism-based series can expect to drop into some virtual combat boots on April 21st in Europe, and then April 26th in North America.
