If you were a dedicated gamer during the PS2 era you’ll remember that there was only one handheld to speak of during this period – the Game Boy Advance. We never had to worry about our favourite console games migrating to a portable platform because the GBA was primarily home to Nintendo spin-off titles like Mario Kart: Super Circuit and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Granted, Square Enix took advantage of the GBA’s success and brought a new Final Fantasy Tactics game to the handheld, as well as a re-release of Final Fantasy VI.
But these were small fry compared to the big-name games which would grace the next generation of portables.

An official release date for Capcom’s DS action/adventure/RPG game, Okamiden, has been revealed for the regions of North America and Europe, while a peculiarly small (but still entertaining) trailer for the title has also made its way onto the tubes.
The first sequel to Capcom/Clover’s amazing Okami on the PS2, Okamiden looks to retain all of the visual style, humour and unique gameplay that made the original game such a cult classic.
You can check out El33tonline’s previous coverage of Okamiden to find some screenshots, a few batches of trailers, and more information, but also be sure to watch the latest trailer for the puppy wolf-starring game below:
Capcom has finally released a proper, full-length trailer for Okamiden (the sequel to the critical hit/commercial flop Okami on the PS2 and Wii) instead of little piecemeal snippets of gameplay here and there.
This sequel will be released on the DS, but luckily it appears as though the developers have put in the time and successfully translated what was great about Okami’s visuals over to the little twin-screen handheld, as the trailer below competently shows.
Capcom (or some wily individual) has sent out two extremely short clips of the upcoming Okami sequel, Okamiden for the DS, both of which look very promising.
The clips are indeed very, very short, but further serve to confirm that the sequel is alive and well, as well as in a presentable state.
There’ll be a lot more revealed about Okamiden at this year’s Tokyo Game Show at the end of the month, if not sooner.
You can watch both of the short clips over at Nintendo Everything.
After a week or so of rumours about the prospect of a sequel to the beautiful PS2/Wii action adventure game, Okami, Capcom have gone ahead and confirmed that a sequel is indeed in the works for Nintendo’s diminutive DS.
The original game starred the exploits of wolf-goddess Amaterasu, as she battled with demons in an effort to set things right in the game’s stylised, watercolour world of feudal Japan, using a unique ‘painting’ ability which enabled players to change the landscape of the game with a few flicks of the PS2 controller’s sticks (or the WiiMote in the Wii version), as well as using this ability as a weapon, stopping time to paint a few slashes through the screen to damage enemies.
