It must be every parent’s worst nightmare. Your young child is very ill and there is apparently no cure, and nothing you can do to help her. In Nier, the game, you play a single father with a very sick young girl. And the only thing you want of this world is a cure. It’s a gripping tale of adventure, remorse, action and sadness. Yes, it is an RPG from Square Enix. No, this is not Final Fantasy. It is a complete time drain and you will often wonder if the game was worth the effort. Read on to see if I thought it was a waste or not.

Square Enix has announced that new downloadable content for their action RPG Nier will be available for the Xbox 360 today (for 560 MS Points) and for the PS3 tomorrow (for €6.99).
Titled ‘The World of Recycled Vessel,’ the new DLC will add new weapons, costumes, music and battle quest. A gate to a strange world is opened, mixing the past and present, and giving players the chance to engage in 15 “nightmarish” battles to unlock two sets of bonus costumes for Nier, Emil and Kaine, three powerful weapons, new music and a special quest that “challenges you to destroy your woolliest adversaries.”
Square Enix’s next action RPG, Nier Replicant, which was teased in an advertisement in a recent issue of Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, has finally received a bit of visual panache to go along with the confirmation that it does indeed exist, heading out onto the PlayStation 3 at an unknown date. It’s looking very panache-ie.
By all accounts, the PS3 version of Nier Replicant is an accompaniment title to Square Enix’s similarly named Nier Gestalt on the Xbox 360, in which the characters and storylines, while related to those of the PS3 game, Nier Replicant, are slightly different.
Let’s hope Square Enix clears up any confusion about the two titles at this week’s Tokyo Game Show.

An interesting trailer for a third-person action adventure game, Nier, has been released, and while it looks pretty similar to other games in the genre (God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword), the premise is slightly different in that battles against enemies take place in and around cities that have long since been destroyed.
The trailer is also excellently stylised and just intriguing enough to create a spike of excitement. Watch the debut trailer for Nier below:
