This weekend is a little bit different to any we’ve dealt with this year. First of all, Saturday is Heritage Day in South Africa, as well as National Braai Day, so we’ll be reflecting on our roots and cooking up a storm to celebrate!

Also, it’s the last weekend before rAge 2011 kicks off on September 30th in Johannesburg next week, and there’s still a bit of preparation work to be done before we’re set and ready for our showing at the event.

We’ll be at Stand 28, so if you’re in the area and want to see the latest games and gadgets, and you want to snag a bunch of prizes with El33tonline, stop by and say hi!

But that’s next weekend. What are members of El33tonline busy with this weekend?

I’ve watched the NHL series of games win many ‘sports game of the year’ awards in recent times and was always curious to discover what makes it so great, but after playing NHL 12 I can see why developer EA Canada has garnered so many awards over the years. This is a studio that is not only passionate about creating the most enjoyable, deep and realistic ice hockey simulation possible, but also one that is highly ambitious in terms of what features sports games on current-gen consoles can include.

The weekend always catches us by surprise here at El33tonline, but somehow we’re always prepared for it with stacks of games and activities planned.

Of course, the Rugby World Cup is still on-going which means a good portion of time sat in front of the telly watching people crash into one another at top speed (with expected consequences), but we won’t only just be watching colours move on a screen, we’ll also be directing them in a few videogames.

What are select members of El33tonline busying themselves with in front of the TV this weekend?

The newly released Dead Island from Techland and Koch Media has claimed the No. 1 spot on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this past week ahead of another new release, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine from Relic and THQ.

The El33t team is back on South African soil, and to celebrate here’s a brief look at what we’ll be up to this weekend.

Sorry for the radio silence on last week’s Pre-W33kend post, but things have been a little crazy lately with four members of the team in Germany covering gamescom. The good news is that you can enjoy some awesome previews this weekend, with even more goodies to come next week (pictures! swag!)…

It’s time to indulge in a couple game demos today on Xbox LIVE, as tasters for EA’s ice hockey game, NHL 12, and THQ’s heavy action game, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, have both hit the Marketplace!

Exclusive to Xbox LIVE Gold members for now, what can you expect from the demos for these two vastly different games?

Here are a few ideas:

[Update] The demo for NHL 12 is now available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace! Get the details over here. [End of Update]

It’s a great time of year to be a fan of sports games as the next couple of months see the release of three of the most successful franchises from this genre - FIFA 12, Madden NFL 12 and NHL 12. What’s even better is that free demos for all of these games are released weeks before they hit retailers, giving us an opportunity to sample some of the visual, gameplay and roster tweaks over last year’s editions.

EA Sports Logo If you’re one of those people that bemoan the annualisation of sports game franchises and decry the addition of minor perceivable improvements and roster updates to games like FIFA and Madden, and if you’re a hardcore sports game fan that wants to get your hands on these latest games as soon as possible, EA and EA Sports have just launched a solution.

The ‘EA Sports Season Ticket’ has been launched across Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms for four of the publisher’s biggest sports titles, namely FIFA, Madden NFL Football, NHL hockey and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

This programme is said to provide “premium benefits for a better gaming experience” for the included sports titles, but what exactly does this mean? Let’s investigate!
