Yesterday we brought you news of the new Wii bundle for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Winter Olympics, this one featuring a blue Wii for European gamers. Today we bring you news of another new Wii bundle that will be available across North America later this month.
Now that 2010 has been capped with the release of December NPD sales data, and following difficult calculations like addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, and the storing of this data in a time machine for future calculations, we can have a look at the top-selling games of 2010.
If you follow these numbers on a monthly basis, then there won’t be any surprises… save for one. Possibly. Have a look at the top-ten best-selling games of 2010 in the US below:

In a great analysis article, Gamasutra has published a list of the top ten selling games in the US for the period of January to September 2010, according to numbers supplied by research firm NPD.
Unsurprisingly, titles appearing on Nintendo’s Wii and DS consoles are peppered throughout the list, while Microsoft and Bungie’s Halo: Reach snags the top spot on the chart.
As Gamasutra notes, however, those legendary ‘evergreen’ titles (such as Wii Fit and Just Dance) on the Wii and DS are more than capable of overtaking new releases such as Halo: Reach, as they accumulate sales over time rather than explode onto the market.

Nintendo of Europe has announced that the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Pack (or ‘the red Wii bundle’) will indeed be making its way to the region’s shores, as reported earlier today with the appearance of an image of the PAL version of the console.
To celebrate 25 years of Super Mario Bros., European gamers will be able to get their hands on a super Wii bundle which includes a red Wii, a red Wii Remote Plus, a red Nunchuk, and a total of three games, namely New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, and a pre-installed version of the original Donkey Kong, in homage to Mario’s first ever appearance in a videogame.
[Update] Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the red Wii will make an appearance in Europe after all. Find the details on that story over here. [End of Update]
An image of an English, ‘PAL’-branded red anniversary Wii box recently surfaced on the ‘net, leading to wild speculation (and focussed speculation, too) that this version of Nintendo’s home console will also be heading to European retailers later this year.
This follows the reveal that a special 25th anniversary Super Mario Bros. Wii, coloured red, will be released in Japan on November 11th.
Last week a list was released revealing the top-selling videogames for the first half of 2010 in Japan. To not many industry observers’ surprise, New Super Mario Bros. Wii appeared at the top of that list, followed by a host of other games that released in 2009.
Sales tracking and research firm NPD has now released a similar list, only for the US, revealing which titles have been raking the charts during the first six months of 2010… and wouldn’t you know it, New Super Mario Bros. Wii also appears at the top of NPD’s list.
But wait! This list only covers individual platforms, spreading out respective sales of each title over single consoles instead of lumping them all together (i.e. combined sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of a game).
NPD has a list for this ‘lumping’ of platforms too, or as the firm eloquently calls it, ‘Combined Platform Sales.’ Which game topped this list?
Interesting. You would think that a top twenty list of Japanese software sales for the first half of 2010 would be filled with titles released in 2010… you would think that.
In reality though, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Less than half of the top twenty games appearing in the list (comprising the best-selling titles for the first half of 2010 in Japan) were released in 2010. The rest are all 2009 releases and older.
What’s more, thirteen of these titles appear on a Nintendo console, with the top-selling title being New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Deduce from that what you will.
To be shocked out of your socks (or not, as the case may be), read through the full list of best-selling Japanese games in the first half of 2010, below:
During a somewhat quiet month for videogame releases, the NPD Group has announced videogame software and hardware sales figures in the US for the month of April, revealing an incredible 26 percent drop in overall revenues for the region compared to the same period last year.
Good news for Ubisoft was hidden in the bleak April report, as the publisher’s Splinter Cell: Conviction topped the software sales chart for the month, ahead of evergreen Nintendo titles and the blockbuster God of War III.
Most probably in an effort to assure shareholders (and fans) that Nintendo’s games and platforms are still a force to be reckoned with in the market, the publisher revealed some impressive sales rankings during its recent financial results briefing given to investors.
In both Europe and the US for the first 12 to 15 weeks of 2010, sales of Nintendo’s games, and games on Nintendo’s platforms, have been mighty - in a list of top selling games comprising 30 titles, Nintendo platform-exclusive titles make up 13 spots on the European sales list, and 14 on the US list.
Coming off of the major high of the end of year sales in December in the US last year, January’s videogame industry sales figures (which includes software, hardware and accessories) are looking positively dopey in comparison, as sales tracker NPD reports an overall market decline in the US of 13% compared to the same period last year, dropping to $1.17 billion.
It’s official: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best selling, biggest blockbuster of a game to release during 2009. All of those other times you were told Modern Warfare 2 was the biggest and best don’t count.
As part of an in-depth report published by GfK Chart Track on trade site MCV.co.uk, some interesting worldwide software sales figures for the top five videogames of 2009 have been revealed, with a breakdown by region (US, Japan and UK) also provided.
At number one, Modern Warfare reigns supreme with worldwide sales of 11.86 million units, while Wii Sports Resort dillydallies behind with 7.57 million units.
To find out who the other three are, and what the sales breakdown per region is, you need only casually roll your eyeballs a little further below:
According to worldwide life-to-date sales data released by Nintendo earlier today, three of the publisher’s titles, namely Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, have all surpassed 10 million units sold for the period of April 1st 2009 to December 31st 2009.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii has just crossed the 3 million sales mark, making it the fastest Wii title to cross the 3 million sales threshold in Japan.
The game went on sale in Japan on the 3rd of December last year and has gone on to sell 3 002 753 units in its first seven weeks on sale. As a result it has overtaken other popular Wii titles that have also crossed the 3 million sales mark including Wii Sports and Wii Fit.
US sales tracking firm NPD has revealed that December 2009 has become the videogame industry’s best ever month in terms of sales in the US, generating $5.53 billion in console retail game market revenues – a 4% year-over-year increase from $5.32 billion in December of 2008.
