Looking for your next music game ‘hit’? Will the next Guitar Hero game fill the void?
Good thing you won’t have to wait too much longer, as Activision has announced that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will release around the world in late September.
When Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock releases this September, the music game is set to include what Activision hopes will be an epic story-based ‘Quest Mode,’ which kicks off with a battle between the Demigod of Rock (who represents everything good in the world of Rock) and The Beast (a soulless, mechanical monster).
After the Demigod loses the battle and is imprisoned, it’s up to you, the player, to unlock the radical alter egos of the game’s in-game characters to eventually do battle with and overcome The Beast in a final reckoning, further unlocking new game modes and extras to play with.
Find out all about this new Quest Mode in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock with gameplay footage and a developer overview (with comments from the game’s star, Gene Simmons):
Activision has revealed a further 22 tracks that will be available on-disc when Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock hits shelves for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii this September.
In addition to the new tracks the publisher also announced that two tracks will be exclusively re-recorded specifically for the game: Alice Cooper’s ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’ and The Runaways ‘Cherry Bomb.’
Now that the cycle is complete, and the game has already been detailed and shown in a teaser trailer, it’s time for Activision to formally announce the existence of Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, the sixth iteration of the series, and if Activision is to believed, the best ever.
While we’ve heard that one before, with over 90 on-disc songs, a new set of gameplay challenges in Quickplay+, a completely redesigned “rock-inspired” guitar controller, and a story-driven Quest Mode, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, at the very least, may well be the most fully-featured Guitar Hero game ever to release.
Chief Operating Officer of Guitar Hero David Haddad enthused:
[Update] Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock has since been formally announced by Activision. Get all the details over here. [End of Update]
A teaser trailer for Activision and Neversoft’s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock has been released for ya’ll to see, and while it doesn’t show any in-game footage from the title, it does reveal a variety of ‘classic’ Guitar Hero characters being magically and mystically transformed into their ‘warrior of rock’ alter egos.
The trailer also dates Warriors of Rock for a September 2010 release, which is in keeping with the franchise’s traditional launch windows.
It reminds me more and more of Brütal Legend…
Nintendo Power magazine has managed to rustle up the first details on Activision’s next Guitar Hero game, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.
By the sounds (and looks) of things, instead of being content to slap a big ‘ole ‘6’ on the end of the title, add a few features and call it a day, developer Neversoft will be taking the Guitar Hero franchise into a new direction that’s much more story-oriented than previous games, while taking a ‘back-to-basics’ approach to try and regain and retain the raw ‘soul’ of the series.
MTV Multiplayer Blog have posted up a list of things you simply have to try once you get your hands on the latest entry to the Guitar Hero franchise, the suitably metal themed Guitar Hero: Metallica, releasing at the end of May in Europe, but today in the US.
Lead designer on the title, Alan Flores, provided eleven things to do in the game to squeeze out the maximum experience. What does he have to say for himself?
“Check out old Metallica set lists in the photo gallery.
- “There are a couple of images of old Metallica set lists in the Extras for the game. If you’re in a band, seeing that Metallica didn’t always get paid is encouraging.”
Band members are sure to enjoy that one. Read the rest of the list below, which includes some challenges that even the best Guitar Hero players will have difficulty with:
