EA and the folks at developer Black Box have made two exciting announcements today regarding the pair’s massively multiplayer online (action) racing game, Need For Speed World.
One of the announcements involves a very big number, while the other announcement doesn’t involve any numbers at all!
My, what a farcical riddle!
It appears as though every gaming franchise is going MMO. Soon we will see a Fallout MMO, another Star Wars MMO and a Barbie Showjumping MMO. And why wouldn’t they? Look at the insane success of World of Warcraft. But taking a franchise online and making it a success are entirely different milestones for these projects. One of the franchises that is close to release is Need for Speed World. I recently had the opportunity to play the Beta version of the game, and came away impressed.

EA has announced that its massively multiplayer online action racing game, Need for Speed World, will be available for digital download on the 27th of July for the PC. Unless you pre-order the game of course, in which case you’ll be able to jump behind the wheel a full week earlier than other racers.
When you woke up today, was there an inexplicable feeling in the pit of your stomach? A hunger that you just couldn’t place? A mysterious malaise in search of a cure?
When you dragged yourself out of bed this morning, was there a chance you felt the Need For Speed… World open beta?
It’s a good thing that you did (shush if you didn’t) because EA has announced that the five day long Need For Speed World open beta begins today.
EA recently announced that its massively multiplayer online action racing game, Need for Speed World, will officially go live in July this year, thrusting gamers into an “enormous, socially-connected white-knuckle Need for Speed experience featuring an all-new power-up system and deep RPG style progression.”
In the wake of EA’s released financial results, the publisher has revealed its intended release slate for the four quarters making up fiscal year 2011 (beginning April 1st 2010 and ending March 31st 2011).
Everything seems present and accounted for and is in line with the company’s previously released schedule, with no real surprises, unless you count that mysterious Dragon Age title that keeps popping up.
Have a good look through EA’s fiscal year 2011 release schedule below, which includes the likes of Need For Speed World, Medal of Honor, Crysis 2, EA Sports MMA, NBA Jam, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm and loads more:
The Need For Speed franchise is heading into the permanent online realm with the launch of the first Need For Speed World closed beta for PC, which is the first of many beta tests that will take place over the next few months.
EA is calling on fans to apply to participate in this and other closed beta tests in the future, which will give players “an insider’s look at this hotly anticipated racing MMO.” Constructive feedback from participants will apparently go “straight back to the development team to help add polish, finesse and tuning to the final product.”
You can apply to participate at the official Need For Speed website over here.
