British developer Criterion Games is staffing up for the next entry in “the world’s number one, multi award winning, arcade racing franchise” according to recent job listings for a senior VFX engineer and cinematic cut scene artist that were posted on EA’s Career Opportunities website.
The Need for Speed franchise has been very active of late, with two new games in the series being released in the last six months – Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and SHIFT 2 Unleashed. EA is clearly keen to utilise the Need For Speed name while it’s still resonant in gamers’ minds judging by yesterday’s confirmation of a brand new title in the franchise.
Mass Effect and Heavy Rain were two titles that came out tops at the British Academy Video Games Awards (BAFTA) recently held in London.
Heavy Rain walked away with three BAFTAs, for Original Music, Technical Innovation and Story. Mass Effect was crowned Best Game, applauded for being a “combined achievement of technology, art, design [and] audio… a beautiful complete gaming experience.”

Want to know if you’re the proud owner of a shiny new game? You know what to do.
Tons of fantastic titles were released this year, so the task of choosing the very best of the best was extremely difficult! How do you squeeze over thirty amazing games into the space of just ten slots? Impossible, but as is tradition, necessary.
So to compile a final Top Ten list of the ultimate games of 2010, we called on El33tonline’s readers to vote for your favourite title, and thanks to your input, we’ve finally got that list!
We’ve tallied the votes, so without further ado, here are El33tonline’s Game of the Year winners, as voted on by you:
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is a mighty game, I’m sure we can all agree – there’s currently no arcade racer quite like it, and few games released this year, full stop, have managed to deliver such a thrilling experience!
Good news then that EA and Criterion will be offering new content for this mighty game in the form of the ‘Super Sports Pack,’ which will add news cars, events and Trophies/Achievements!
Here’s what you’ll get in this announced Hot Pursuit DLC:
Over the last few weeks, El33tonline has been running no less than five, I-said-five competitions to give you a chance of winning some of the latest and greatest videogames to grace the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3!
The thing is, the dreaded ‘Closing Date’ for these competitions is drawing near… very near! If you close your eyes and concentrate, you may even feel the disturbingly hot breath of the ‘Closing Date’ on the back of your neck!
It’s that close!
But there’s still something you can do to ward off this dangerous creature: Enter El33tonline’s range of competitions and you’ll never have to worry about the beast again! Well, until our next round of competitions, that is…
Here’s a quick round-up of El33tonline’s currently on-the-go competitions, all of which close on December 5th:
What are you waiting for, an invitation?!
Oh… OK then, here you are: You are cordially invited to enter El33tonline’s competitions!
The excellent Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit from EA and Criterion released mere weeks ago, and it’s already proven itself as not only one of the best games of 2010, but also the best Need For Speed game available!
To celebrate the overwhelming reception that Hot Pursuit has received from fans and critics, EA and Criterion want to give you a set of free cars for you to download and race with in the game, but they aren’t about to give free content away for absolutely nothing!
They’re asking all gamers to watch the official Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit launch and commendations trailer, and when the total views of that video reach 1 million, the new car content will be unleashed!
Find that trailer below, and do your part to unlock new content for this amazing game:
