Owners of the excellently exotic off-road racer, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift should be scrambling for their game disc because Sony and the game’s developers, Evolution, have just released an update for the game, featuring “a number of useful fixes and updates,” including:

  • Sugar Rush short-cut removed – The short-cut to the left of the “keep right” arrows going into the sugar field was not intentionally included and has been removed
  • Sugar Rush respawn point fixed – Crashing at a certain point on the track no longer respawns the vehicle in a generous position
  • Inclusion of Microbadges (“in-game displayable ‘medals’ which let you flaunt your proudest personal accomplishments and your off-road racing prowess to every other racer online.”)

Additionally, starting today, Evolution will be releasing new sets of downloadable content (DLC) for the next eight weeks - each pack of DLC released will contain new paintjobs for three vehicles, so over the next two months, you’re going to be getting a ton of free vehicle livery.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift BoxEvolution Studios have recently released a good, solid update to their off-road arcade racer, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, as the game’s director, Jed Ashforth, makes a bold statement, and then a promise:

“More than just a patch, there’s a load of new features in there that will make your time playing MS: PR that little bit sweeter.

“Game Update 2 is also on the way soon, which has some very cool new content in it, especially if you have a bit of a penchant for collecting cool stuff, or if you’re the type of person who enjoys PS3 Trophies and the like.”

Uh-oh. He said Trophies.

The next time you start the game online, you’ll be prompted to download the update, which entails the following:

Sony and Evolution Studios has popped a new demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift on the PlayStation Store. So, if you haven’t yet tested your driving skills with this racer you can now give it a go.

The demo will offer both a single player and a split screen multiplayer race on the Razorback track. Game Director Nigel Kershaw thinks it’s an “ideal taster of the off road thrills and spills MotorStorm: Pacific Rift has to offer” because of “its thick jungle, colossal waterfalls, dank caves and a multitude of routes.”

According to a post on SCEA’s PlayStation blog, the developers have been “rabidly beavering away on producing a pile of downloadable content to give us some new gameplay to get our teeth into.” Sounds promising.

We thought MotorStorm: Pacific Rift was “a highly entertaining and accessible offroad driving experience” so check out our review of the game.

Next to blowing stuff up there is nothing quiet as satisfying as careening around a racing course at breakneck speeds and barreling towards the finish line to snatch the glory of 1st place. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift delighted me from the get go with responsive handling, lush environments and freaking competitive AI. It is easy to get caught up in the sheer beauty of the rendered scenery and before you know it the AI drivers have nudged you into a ravine, bumped you into a tree or crushed you under their monster trucks. There is no doubt about it, you need to have your wits about you for every second of the race. It is hair raising action from the start line to the finish line with plenty of crowd pleasing destruction in between. It doesn’t matter what vehicle you are in, be it the motorcyle or monster truck, there is always someone bigger or badder than you, ready to take victory away from you.

In a post on the US PlayStation Blog, Game Director for MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Nigel Kershaw, posts about how, now that Pacific Rift is set for release today in the US, the team is off for a well-earned holiday, only there’s going to be work waiting for them when they get back.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift BoxWhat he’s referring to is the downloadable content that developers Evolution will be finishing up for those that happen to buy MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, either now in the US or on November 7th in the UK. What downloadable content? Kershaw expands:

“Once were all rested its back to the development bunker to finish off the DLC we have lined up for you guys in the coming months. We’ve got a pile of stuff waiting in the wings, and, you’ll be glad to know, a lot of it is free. We’re going to try and give you something new to play with every week, and we’ve also got some major packs in development that should be on the store after Christmas.”

Kershaw also leaves off with some development statistics, revealing the team’s level of consumption for certain consumables:

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift looks like it’s set to be a thrilling, off-road romp through a tropical, volcanic island. How thrilling? The trailer speaks for itself:

If that doesn’t get your “Excite ‘O Meter” ticking, not much else will. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift releases November 14th in the UK and Europe, while North Americans get it October 28th.

The sequel to the exciting off-road racer, MotorStorm, only releases in a month’s time in the US (and a little more for Europe dwellers), so if you’re looking forward to the game, some screenshots will have to ease the pain of waiting for MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.

Pacific Rift takes place in and around a volcanic island this time around, as opposed to the canyon setting of the previous game. Speaking of the previous game, go have a look at El33tonline’s review of the original MotorStorm. It’s been released on the PlayStation Platinum series so, if you haven’t got it yet, it’s going for cheap.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift BoxMotorStorm: Pacific rift, the sequel to the well received and generally well regarded off-road racing launch title for PlayStation 3, has had its date readjusted after it was announced it would be releasing early in October.

The new release date is October 28th in North America, while the UK and Europe can expect the game on November 14th. This time you get to race around courses weaving through a tropical island, with dynamically changing tracks to keep you on your toes. Not only that, but it looks a treat!

The original MotorStorm is available as a Platinum release for PS3, so if you don’t have it yet, read our review to see if it’s your potential cup of tea.

With the success of the PS3 launch title, MotorStorm, a sequel was inevitable, but this time the MotorStorm Festival takes to the tropics, with players racing over unpredictable and diverse terrain on a remote Pacific island.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift includes the game play that made the original great, returning with features such as varied and deformable tracks and vehicles, also both fully destructible. The tropical environments promise to be highly detailed as players indulge in some off-road racing though ‘lush jungle, towering peaks, and crystal-clear water.’

Four-player split-screen multiplayer is also available, as well as online multiplayer for up to 20 players, while in the single player variant, players take on aggressive AI across 16 multi-route tracks, taking advantage of the newly available vehicle class, the monster truck.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is expected later this year, so watch the E3 trailer to whet your appetite!

MotorStorm Pacific Rift is the second installment in Evolution Studio’s PS3 exclusive brutal off road racer series. The game is expected to be released this fall.

This time the MotorStorm Festival moves away from Monument Valley to a remote Pacific Island. Be prepared to face dense jungles, thick swamps, mountain peaks and volcanoes as you attempt not only to win but to survive, making use of both attacking and offensive driving.

You can expect “smarter and more aggressive AI” along with real-time track deformation, vehicles and environments that are fully destructible (collisions will damage a vehicle) as well as detailed scenery. The game will feature game play introduced in the original MotorStorm but will feature more tracks and vehicles as well as multiplayer options including four player split screen offline and races with up to 20 players online.

MotorStorm Pacific Rift introduces 16 multi-route tracks as well as new vehicles including a new monster truck class, ATVS, rally cars, buggies, motorbikes, race trucks, mudpluggers and Big Rigs.
