THQ and 4A Games have been teasing us for some weeks now with a countdown clock and a snippet of a trailer, but now, today, the full (and creepy) live-action short film based in the world of the pair’s post-apocalyptic first-person shooter, Metro: Last Light, has finally arrived.
We’re all no doubt looking forward to the world premiere of Metro: Last Light’s live-action short film this Thursday, for a chance to see… what’s that? You’re not looking forward to the video? You didn’t know it was coming?
Well, well, well. We were going to show you a teaser trailer for the upcoming short film, but now it looks like there’s some explaining to do!
At the end of last week, THQ held a London press event to further reveal a collection of the publisher’s titles including Company of Heroes 2, Metro: Last Light and, of course, Darksiders II.
All of these titles are very exciting indeed, but one of the games’ characters would have stood out to attendees more than any other thanks to an outstanding bit of ‘mural’ art that was in the process of being created throughout the event.
Following the announcement that Volition’s Saints Row: The Third had shipped (Note: Not sold) an impressive 3.8 million units since its release in November, with an additional five to six million expected over the title’s lifetime, THQ revealed that the publisher intends to exit the once-lucrative kid’s games market in order to become “a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises.”
Focus, too, will be given to THQ’s digital distribution efforts as a result of the success of Saints Row: The Third’s downloadable content offerings.
Since these announcements were made, however, the situation has turned very dire for THQ.
After reading Lisa’s heart-stopping preview of Metro: Last Light last month, my excitement for 4A Games’ next wonderfully gloomy and apocalyptic first-person shooter increased by tenfold.
Tenfold! At least!
Metro: Last Light is the sequel to Metro 2033, and the second entry to the series of horror-themed first-person shooter games from THQ and developer 4A. Last Light follows on from the events in Metro 2033, and sees gamers returning to the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow in 2034.
The remnants of mankind hide below ground in the tunnels of the Metro, plagued by deadly threats from both above and below the desolate surface. Above ground the poisoned skies threaten their fragile existence, while below ground they are stalked by mutants. Yet mankind is not united, instead the station-cities of the Metro are on the verge of a civil war, locked in a struggle for control over a ‘doomsday device’ which is said to hold the power to ‘destroy humanity forever.’

THQ has just released the second part of it E3 2011 video demonstration for Metro: Last Light, revealing an extremely intense period of gameplay while simultaneously showcasing the game’s incredible visuals, with wonderfully harsh lighting and great atmospheric effects to set the mood:
If this Metro: Last Light gameplay video is anything to go by, the reason the game is called ‘Last Light’ is because players will be systematically hunting down and killing all of the available light sources in the world, all in an effort to improve their chances of sneaking up on enemies in the pitch-black darkness.
Other than a moody setting, in the gameplay demo video below you’ll also be able to witness an intense gunfight, destructible cover, and a bunch of bad guys getting mowed down with a gatling gun – Metro: Last Light is looking extremely promising indeed!
THQ had a well-rounded line-up going into E3 and as a result we enjoyed some awesome screenshots and explosive trailers from the publisher.
It’s that wonderful time of the year when we get to indulge in trailers from E3, and trust me when I say that this first gameplay trailer from Metro: Last Light won’t disappoint.
Metro: Last Light has just been formally announced by publisher THQ and developer 4A Games, a horror-themed first-person shooter that will follow on from the events of Metro 2033.
According to THQ, Metro: Last Light will plunge us further into the “haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow,” while delivering a “terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.”
After a follow-up to 4A Games’ Metro 2033 was mentioned last year by THQ’s Danny Bilson, a proper name has now been attached to the sequel – and it’s not Metro 2034!
Now known as Metro: Last Light, this game will serve as the second entry to the series of creepy first-person shooter/adventure games.
