Nintendo has released a cinematic and monologue-heavy trailer for the publisher’s upcoming action adventure game, Metroid: Other M, as Samus herself lets the audience in on a few personal secrets, accompanied by some intriguing visuals.
If news from Nintendo’s recent media summit is anything to go by, we can expect quite a bit of narrative and cinematic grandeur in Metroid: Other M when it releases a little later this year on the Wii, but for now, let the trailer tease you with its hidden plot points below:
Nintendo fans, it’s time to get super excited, as new details regarding Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M spill out from Nintendo representatives Nate Williams and Nate Bihldorf… was there a ‘two for one special’ on ‘Nates’ or something, Nintendo?
Regardless, the two Nintendo employees speak about all the new features that players of both Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M will be able to get their hands on when the games release later this year, with some new glimpses at gameplay footage spliced in-between all of the exciting talk.
Watch below and get excited!
After North America had its turn to receive a slew of release dates for a bunch of highly anticipated Nintendo games, now it’s Europe’s turn to find out when those selfsame games will find their ways into stores across the region.
Without further ado, let’s get right to it:
Nintendo and Team Ninja have unleashed a batch of new screenshots showing off all facets of Metroid: Other M, including glimpses at what look to be both third- and first-person gameplay, as well as some classic side-scrolling platform running.
The developers have also unveiled further details regarding Metroid: Other M, which is said to contain a story that is more “revealing” and “personal” than previous entries to the franchise, while this particular title has been marked as the direct successor to Super Metroid.
The latest piece of release date news to escape from the Nintendo Summit today is that the Team Ninja-developed Metroid: Other M will release in late June in North America for Nintendo Wii.
In this wide-ranging video interview, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime talks about Nintendo’s approach to different types of gamers and their attempts to capture a new audience.
He also speaks about Nintendo’s efforts to revitalise key and fan-favourite franchises from their library of games, not least of which is their newly announced joint-venture project, Metroid: Other M, currently in development at external developer, Team Ninja.

At Nintendo’s E3 2009 press conference, a brand new entry to the Metroid series was announced to be in development by Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive) for the Wii, with three new screenshots released to accompany the reveal.
Not much is known about the title so far, except that it seems as though the game will be more third-person orientated than Retro Studios’ iterations of the series, while first-person action will be present as well. It also appears as though Metroid: Other M will contain more cinematic elements (as compared to previous entries) to help the story along.

Nintendo have managed to keep pretty tight-lipped about their announcements at E3 this year. The only slip was the unearthing of an English Wii Fit Plus logo on the Japanese trademark database, suggesting a sequel to the popular Wii Fit will be revealed tonight. We also predicted that a new Mario game may be unveiled to appease the hardcore gamers who were disappointed by last year’s performance but let’s see what Nintendo had up their sleeves by taking a look at what happened at the Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference.
(Update: Now includes footage accompanying the announcements at the conference, including New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2.)
The event started with Nintendo’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway taking the stage and discussing how videogames are becoming more and more popular. She promises to deliver both innovation and surprises during tonight’s show, before introducing us to a videogame character who has appeared in over 200 different titles. Cue the Mario retro video montage.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Dunaway continues, talking about how great Mario was in 3D but how Shigeru Miyamoto has been striving to move him into a new dimension, thinking for 15 years now about one new way to play a new Mario game. Apparently number four is the key. A logo for New Super Mario Bros. Wii is displayed on screen!
Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference was bubbling along in a reasonably interesting fashion with games like New Super Mario Bros Wii, Golden Sun DS and new Mario vs Donkey Kong game for DSiWare being announced alongside expected games like Wii Fit Plus and a slew of games that are already out in Japan on the DS.
But then the beautiful strains of Gusty Garden Galaxy blew over the audience and, surely, everyone had a smile on their face: Super Mario Galaxy 2. Yes!! The trailer showed Mario riding on Yoshi, and doing all manner of awesome things, just like he does in Super Mario Galaxy.
And when you thought that was all Nintendo would pull out of the bag (with the naysayers saying “relying on Mario, again…”), they showed a trailer of a new project called Metroid: Other M, a collaboration between Nintendo and Team Ninja! It looks very different in play style to the Metroid Prime series, with a mostly third person perspective and much more melee action (think Metroid crossed with Ninja Gaiden.)
More to come as and when screenshots and trailers are released.
